Just git gud, or ask a high elo player to use your account for a few days, that's gonna net you some sweet ELO, so you can get rekt when (if) you get your account back.

this game just isn't very good.

You literally can join high elo games at any time. You don't need to have high elo yourself. Which is good, because elo signifies how "mighty" you are - at low elo you can play semi-casually (as long as you still try to help your team winning), but at high elo you are expected to carry your team every single time you join. So many times I heard T6-T7 players complain they can't play gorge because they are supposed to carry aliens as lerk/fade instead...
