No steam achievements...
STILL!?!?

Adding achievements would surely boost this games population. (Sales too)

I fully disagree lol, nothing against achievements but it would do nothing to population or sales

The reason for the low population is poor performance believe it or not, pretty much every single person on my friends list doesn't actively play the game simply because it doesn't perform to expectations regarding framerates/hit registry (although on a good server the hitreg actually isn't that bad)

The framerate on the other hand after a dozen minutes of playing begins to decay to what is pretty much unacceptable for a competitive based game (not unplayable)

Nobody buys games to get fake throphies!
Kree 9 Mar, 2013 @ 12:15am
Others are right that no one would buy the game for achievements. However, little trophies can get people to play more often than they normally would even if it's meaningless. If people are playing more, they'll be more inclined to push through the learning curve.. maybe. Hey, then they may actually begin to enjoy the game and suggest it to friends, which would boost sales.

It certainly wouldn't hurt except for the "Try to Comm!" Achievement. I imagine those games would get a bit heated.

I would buy it and 3 of my friends would for steam achievements alone.

Achievements form part of the axis of evil along with DLC and DRM. Take your achievements and go back to xbox live.

explain clearly how achievements is linked to increased population/sales?

I am wondering the same thing. Achievements is unnecessary and isn't needed for the game. If anything it would possibly redirect focus from proper gameplay in favor of hunting achievements. But that depends on how Unknown Worlds would handle achievements of course. Personally I think one of the best things with this game is that there isn't any xp, achievements, unlocks and the like but pure focus on the gameplay.

There are tons of people that only buy games with Steam Achievements. I am in a group that has thousands of members that fall under that exact category.

To each their own I suppose...but dont hate on others because their opinion differs from yours. Im not bashing people who dont go for achievements so I expect the same treatment.

Achievements would be nice to bring in some extra people. As long as they are not some weird achievement like get X amount of kills with parasite or welder. Those would be gameplay breaking achievements that only benefit achievement hunters.

If anything achievements could be used to educate new players. Like an achievement for using the welder to repair teammates for x amount of armor, using the welder to build stuff faster, etc.

"There are tons of people that only buy games with Steam Achievements." That is a bit sad. I thought people bought games for, you know, the games? Oh well - I guess I am one of those gits that don't need a flashy reminder popup every now and then to remind me that I am "accomplishing" something in a game. :-)
i dont need a achievements.. am enjoying the game with out them. i dont want someone telling me "hey help me do this so i can achieve this and that.. " .. lame.. just play the game and allow them to appear by surprise.

the only achievements i wouldnt mind would be "killed x amount of enemies", "repaired million points"... or stuff so it can track how much we have killed(played) sorta like experience so if i check out someones profile i can tell their experience based on what achievements they have unlocked.

If someone were to buy this game only fot steam achivements, they are probably not cut out for this game. The kind of mindset that goes with achievement worship will not thrive in this kind of game environment.
Cim 10 Mar, 2013 @ 9:28am
I could care less about achivements personally, and I doubt they would boost sales, but if they are done right (not interfering with regular gameplay) they can be a fun little distraction. This is a Steamworks game after all and it does come off a bit strange that it does not have them.

If I remember correctly, the developers did say during the beta that they wanted to add them but just didn't have time. I guess it's something that's been pretty low on the priorities list.

At least GFWL/Xbox achievements have an aggregate GS number and display next to your avatar...steam achievements are pretty worthless.

THIS.

I would not want someone grinding for achievements on my team. Achievement players focus on getting achievements and not on proper game play. A marine who runs off to get kill gorges to get his achievement and not watch my back aganist skulks is not a player I want on my team.

One caveat, if there was an Oni killed achievement, that would actually help marines as players don't chase them down like they should.
