The reason for the low population is poor performance believe it or not, pretty much every single person on my friends list doesn't actively play the game simply because it doesn't perform to expectations regarding framerates/hit registry (although on a good server the hitreg actually isn't that bad)
The framerate on the other hand after a dozen minutes of playing begins to decay to what is pretty much unacceptable for a competitive based game (not unplayable)
It certainly wouldn't hurt except for the "Try to Comm!" Achievement. I imagine those games would get a bit heated.
explain clearly how achievements is linked to increased population/sales?
I am wondering the same thing. Achievements is unnecessary and isn't needed for the game. If anything it would possibly redirect focus from proper gameplay in favor of hunting achievements. But that depends on how Unknown Worlds would handle achievements of course. Personally I think one of the best things with this game is that there isn't any xp, achievements, unlocks and the like but pure focus on the gameplay.
To each their own I suppose...but dont hate on others because their opinion differs from yours. Im not bashing people who dont go for achievements so I expect the same treatment.
If anything achievements could be used to educate new players. Like an achievement for using the welder to repair teammates for x amount of armor, using the welder to build stuff faster, etc.
the only achievements i wouldnt mind would be "killed x amount of enemies", "repaired million points"... or stuff so it can track how much we have killed(played) sorta like experience so if i check out someones profile i can tell their experience based on what achievements they have unlocked.
If I remember correctly, the developers did say during the beta that they wanted to add them but just didn't have time. I guess it's something that's been pretty low on the priorities list.
THIS.
I would not want someone grinding for achievements on my team. Achievement players focus on getting achievements and not on proper game play. A marine who runs off to get kill gorges to get his achievement and not watch my back aganist skulks is not a player I want on my team.
One caveat, if there was an Oni killed achievement, that would actually help marines as players don't chase them down like they should.
