OMG .. who the f*ck designed the new UI (linux -> proton (window)
The ~ key no longer works as console key. Its a known issue with locals aso. This is not the problem.
During key changes I accidentally press the mouse1 button as console key.
The UI then points out I have unsaved changes (save/revert/cancel) ... I press revert and voila the mouse1 button now opens the console .. WTF ... I pressed REVERT ... not SAVE ...
To make it worse when clicking the Options in the menu now opens the console and im unable to change the console toggle key back. WTF ... W ... T ... F
Please make it impossible to bind the "menu activation button" to something else.

I did run into the same issue myself 2 days ago. It will be fixed for the next update.

To resolve it open the ~/.steam/root/userdata/76561197972213344/4920/remote/option.xml and edit the ToggleConsole node/field.
