Hi,

that sounds like your remote config file got corrupted. So first disable steam cloud sync for Natural Selection 2 (NS2): Right-click at the library entry of NS2 -> Properties -> Updates -> Deselect the Enable Steam Cloud synchronization.

The go to Steam\userdata\<your_steam_id>\4920\remote and upload the options.xml to https://gist.github.com/ . I'll have a look at it and will send you a fixed version.

Been suffering with this issue for a couple of weeks ish and all i have tried so far has not worked.
I don't use 'Steam Cloud Sync' at all because i had issues with it before ect messing up saves on other games ect.

Only thing i have done different today is clearing my download cache in Steam Client and rebooting and logging in to Steam fresh.

Settings/Downloads/clear download cache

So far the games settings in the options.xml are actually holding and not reverting back to Vanilla, so far.
I will see how things are tomorrow after a reboot ect but fingers crossed its all good.

Issue is back after being free of it for a day lol.
The github link you gave requires me to create an account ect to upload correct?
Any reason not to post in this Thread, simple text file, no encoding ect?
Also Wooza has posted a response for help in my original thread i linked at the top.

Same issues here.
Had this error ages ago but suddenly the error was gone and everything was fine.
Now its back since around 2 weeks i believe.

No option has changed on my side close before the error came back.
Steam cloud is disabled since years for ns2 here.

It was just: Bämm, here i am again.

I started the game, short after my last post and the settings are fine. WTF

I have deleted my Natural Selection 2 AppData folder.
Deleted the 4920 Steam folder with the Options.xml ect.
Unsubscribed from mods in workshop and deleted the Natural Selection AppData folder.
Re verified Game through Steam Client.
Pretty much everything i can think of apart from Uninstalling/Reinstalling.
At a loss to find any more 'hidden' folders for NS2 that might be messing with me (Windows 10).

Ok , it looks i found a possible reason/solution
Based on one post about steam cloud i was playing around with different options.

Thats how i ran NS2 for years now:
- Steam cloud disabled
- game is pinned to taskbar and i am starting it via this

So i enabled steam cloud for testing

If i start via the pinned shortcut, nothing changed
But if i start via game library, the game is trying to sync with cloud now. This question Window did not came up via pinned shortcut.

So is seems, the starting routine is different between "via library" and "shortcut taskbar" start.

Interesting.

I always boot NS2 from shortcut on Desktop, not from the Library.
I will add in a copy of my preferred options and try a few different boot methods, thing is i need to Reboot the machine between boots as that is when the options get reset back to Vanilla, guess its a cache thing.

Also yes have a couple of error lines in my NS2.log that refer to the game checking the cloud for options ect so i will try re enabling Steam Cloud as i test.

Will post back later tonight or tomorrow when i have had chance to run a few tests.

Right, what i found so far.
Re Enabled Steam Cloud sync in Steam Options.
Starting game from Steam Library and Desktop shortcut different results.
Desktop shortcut reset options, Steam Library did not.
Created New Desktop shortcut, no options reset.

Now in 4920 folder the remotercache.vdf is now displaying syncstate 4 where before it was 3.

In the Appdata folder the log is also slightly different now only showing 1 error related to options where before it was always 2:
Error: Attempted to load remote options from a file that does not exist.

Gonna test how things change after Reboot, this is where things always go south :(

It **appears** to be fixed for me now.
After several reboots, altering settings, adding mods and changing settings they appear to be holding.

The remotecache.vdf file in the 4920 folder looks a little screwy displaying 3 versions of my options.xml where before it was always 1 but i guess this is the copies i had/have in said folder, not sure.

So will post back if things change or you cannot follow my process of fixing it @depara

Just hoping having Steam Cloud enabled doesn't bite me in the a** with other game saves.
