Report a translation problem
I assume crash to desktop means that you are crashing without our crash reporter showing up, right? Please have a look into windows's event viewer and see if there are any errors or warning related to ns2.exe. Or just check the most recent events after NS2 just crashed to desktop. That should help to figure out what is going on.
In the past ppl did run into these kind of issues due to faulty memory modules. So just to be sure that's not the problem I would recommend to run a test like memtest86 on your system
