Game wont start on Linux
I have a fresh steam install over Arch linux and I cant start the game. I just get the error when I try to launch:

An error occurred while updating Natural Selection 2 (missing executable) /home/me/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Natural Selection 2/ns2.exe

I've checked manually and that file doesnt exists:

me@main Natural Selection 2 % ls assets/ ns2/ Dedicated_Server_Usage.txt* bootcamp/ utils/ 'Editor Manual.pdf'* challenges/ x64/ 'Mapping Guidelines.pdf'* core/ builder_setup_development.xml* steam_appid.txt* DeluxeEdition/ builder_setup.xml* docs/ cacert.pem*

This is the log that appears on the terminal:

NS2 no longer supports the native Linux Build. You can however try using Proton on Linux which should work and devs even address and fix bugs regarding proton and ns2

Yep, you are right, forcing it to use proton 4.11 makes the game work. I though that steam would use that by default....

However game performance is not good, while FPS are fine (80-100) I suffer from real bad stuttering, especially when fighting someone, it's impossible to kill anything. I tried with all graphic options and is always the same, game micro freezes constantly during a fraction of a second, making it unplayable.

I personally use Windows to play games and I can't really help here.

You can try the command r_stats which gives some detailed information of whats going on what may be the reason for the freezes. There is a world thread and other information. They should have a very low ms value and depending on whats high in your example it may the gpu or cpu.

You could make a new thread in the Technical Support sub channel and explain the issue a little more in depth there as I think devs will pay more attention to detailed threads and information already included helps them a lot. Also you can type in console (tilde key to open or whatever is left of key 1) and type verbose 3 which gives more information to the logfile. It would be great if the log file is uploaded somewhere. I don't know where the logfile is saved on Linux so you would have to figure this out yourself.
