You use DX9 in NS2 by any chance? If yes, please switch to DX11
This Option doesnt exist anymore, cause they removed the DX9 feature set.
NS2 is a DX11 only game now.
haha oopsie. I thought they kept it for legacy reasons. I haven't open the game for months xD
I'll look into the issue and see if I can come up with an solution for the next game update. It would be really helpfull if you could provide game logs with having entered net_log 53 into the console before you connect to any server.
I entered net_log 53 and joined a server just like you said, this is what I got: https://hastebin.com/raw/idipanutes
So many people reporting timeouts after joining a server the first time.
I have no idea what could cause the issue but I get log spam on almost every map about "shader missing required technique". maybe it's relevant.
Good luck making people convince reporting issue on your forums, these days are gone
For now if you run into timeout issues please set Resource Loading option to Low. That should decrease the chance of the issue to occur.
I have been staying in touch with those experiencing the issue via discord. The latest version is available at https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/361232765460676610/687339401466085420/ns2_331_2.zip
Extract the files into your ns2 installation's x64 folder (e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Natural Selection 2\x64). Start the game as normal. If you still run into the issue please run the TechSupport.exe inside the x64 folder and send the tech_support.zip to me.
Based on the feedback so far that experimental build does fix the issue for most but not all. So I'm currently working on another iteration of it.
