your specs do barely meet the minimum requirements so you'll be able to run the game but I don't think you will get any more than 15 - 30 fps. Which many don't consider playable given that this game is a competitive multiplayer.
If you want to give it a try just buy the game and directly join a boot camp server. Just make sure you don't play more than 2 hours so you can get a refund from the steam support if the game doesn't run well enough.
Hope this helps.
Should help speed up the game.
You're right. Most servers seem to run it though.
The other thing I suggest to the OP is that most of the servers use 'NS2 Optimization' but they also use 'NS2+'.
If you are on a server using 'NS2+', you can hit ESC and open up the menu and select 'NS2+ options'.
There are a few performance tweaks in there. Like being able to turn on 'simple lighting', as well as being able to turn off some of the unnecessary environment effects. For example, it will turn off the 3D hologram above the marines 'arms lab',
I believe you can also turn off some of the HUD effects.
These are the minimum requirement:
OS:Windows Vista 64-bit or newer
Processor:Core 2 Duo E6700 (2.66 GHz) or better
Memory:4 GB RAM
Graphics:DirectX 9 compatible dedicated video card with 1 GB VRAM and support for Shader Model 3 (e.g. AMD X800, NVidia 8600 or better)
DirectX®:9.0
Btw, none of the GPU's ATI (not AMD) x800 nor Nvidia 8600 do have 1GB VRAM
edit: The ATI X800 doesn't support SM3.0
edit2: The AMD 5770 and Nvidia 460 GTX both do not have more than 1GB VRAM as well
