I'm not using Linux, but in my Nvidia Control center I had to do 2 things in order to have the correct HZ for my game (even with 2 screens - but I don't use that anymore because the second screen drains to much CPU/GPU Power)
a) I predetermine that the Resolution I play with has for example 144hz in the Nvidia Software (but this seems to be a bit wonky)
or
b) I already change the Screen to the Resolution I play ns2 in and change the HZ already to 144hz (I recheck that via my Screen in the Menu)
When I now Start NS2 in that screen the HZ stay at 144hz and are working correctly
As far as I know some games lock FPS to the same HZ as there isn't any point going higher. for me having 60 FPS feels drunk and laggy.
When checking Nvidia settings my monitor is set to 165hz when playing but NS2 is still locked at 60 FPS. This seems to be a Linux issue for me as on Windows I have no problem.
