That is why I am posting this. I do not like that.
It doesn't make any sense for import contracts to last forever, prices would change over time and a supplier would negotiate a new deal after a number of years
You played Tropico 3 4 5 and you dont know? Those version you can import unlimited amount of goods.
I've played 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 for thousands of hours and I have several hundred hours in Tropico 6 in various beta versions.
I'm keenly aware of every detailed change between every version and quite frankly the ability to import unlimited amounts without a new trade deal every once in a while never made any sense.
There's a lot about T6 that I would like to see revised, and it's missing several features from previous games that I could comment on, this isn't one of them I'd change.
Automating trade is a basic feature present in every game where trade is important. It's present in games like Anno. There is no reason to annoy the player with tedious micro especially when you need to import 5 different types of goods. The OP is completely right.
Well said, I wanna import everything.
This is why previous tropico games made it unlimited, and why other games do the same. It's called 'set and forget' which is exactly what players want/need so that they can focus on the overall development of their nation.
In previous games I loved 'set and forget'. For me it was proof of building the perfect economy, when I could leave it running for hours unattended and nothing would spiral out of control.
Amen bro!
On one hand it is nice to not have to renew trade deals.
On the other hand as your relations improve you get a better trade deal.
It's not really a no win. If relationships improve, even with never-ending trade as in the previous games, players had the choice to go back in and find a better deal. It was optional.
I personally used to aim to build a nation so stable and profitable that in the end it didn't matter what the price of coal was, I didn't need to worry. for much the same reason, once I had the best ways of making money in T5 figured out, I never used to use mines either - because it's a hassle when they run out.
I think a lot of people like to avoid micro-management in these games, it was a bit short-sighted to not allow that in T6 too. As I say, it is in the end optional in previous games, so the players really did have the best of both worlds before.
