Favorite map seeds
I'm sure this must have been said but I failed to find any topics with what I thought would be a proper search phrase other than a topic from 2020.

What is your favorite map seed?
For me it's simply: 0
(zero not O) produces a map like this:

I imagine this could be fun on multiplayer since its basically two islands each taking up roughly half the map.
Whats yours?

Suits me fine. It'd be faster for you to start a new map with seed 0 to find out as It's too time consuming to post many screen shots to show it all.

I didn't like the starting location however, so I moved the palace where I wanted it, then put down construction, teamsters and a dock and then demolished the originals. It came close to running out of time what with how long it took for the Tropicans to setup houses around the new palace location, I think I was down to under 1 year before I finished the first trade contract of just 600 corn, but it worked out and now they're off my back for the moment.

I loaded a seed 0 and got something similar to yours, but not exactly the same. Two large long and drawn out islands.

Could you post a screen shot of what thew game created with a seed of 0 please, because they should be identical as far as I understand it.

Maybe some of my other settings (e.g. landmass) were different.

I made a new one with seed zero, only I changed the island setting to 1. Got this. I don't know if you can see it but the dock on the far side of the island is out in the water. There are no beaches and the island is unplayable.

Wow that's just strange, i do imagine that the amount of islands have something to do with it, perhaps using the other number gets an exact duplicate?

It's supposed to set all the settings to be exactly what I have set.

Then you don't understand it.

Map seed doesn't give you an identical result unless all of your settings are the same.

If you set it to many islands you're going to get a different result from setting it to one island. Each is a different algorithm and the seed is the basis for the algorithm, so it's only going to give the same result if you're using the same seed with the same algorithm.

Settings select which algorithm to use with the seed selected.

Computers don't create random numbers, they literally can't. There's a defined algorithm (which in this case you're picking with settings) and that algorithm is "randomized" by inserting a seed number. Seed numbers are selected by a defined process to create the illusion of randomness (such as reading the current microseconds of your system clock) or in this case, being entered by you and overriding the defined process.

Still, the results are only predictable if both the settings and the seed are the same each time.

The "share code" lets you share settings + seed for all settings that use the seed to generate "random" results, resulting in both of you having the same results

The mouse over explained that in game on the tool tip
