How do warehouse work?
I got my warehouse set to distribute items to factories. The farms are a good distance away from industry area. But the warehouses do not seem to ever get items. Is it they deliver it immediately to the factory? At which point what is the point of warehouse since that seems to be default action any way.

Warehouses as distribution centers for raw and intermediate goods only really make sense in the game's logistical system if you're using the logistics drones from the Caribbean Skies DLC.

Otherwise, the main purpose of the game's warehouses is speculation. Maybe you don't currently have a good trade deal, or maybe you're playing with Llama of Wall Street and market fluctuations have dropped the value of widgets through the floor; regardless, you don't want to sell widgets right now and you need a place to put them until that changes.

Warehouses also have some minor utility if you're running Moon missions from the New Frontiers DLC, as one of the rewards you can pick for a successful Moon mission is to magic up thousands of units of cheese at your docks and warehouses - potentially significantly more cheese than a single dock can hold, especially if you already have cheese at the dock due to producing it the normal way. Obtaining cheese in this manner probably isn't worth the time and resources you put into the rocket, but it's better than nothing if you have a reason to send rockets to the Moon more than once or twice.

The only use I've discovered for warehouses is transferring pearls to the road network, and that's only a good idea because teamsters are inefficient about moving goods with a small outflow capacity relative to their production rate.
