College seems finicky
I've had a college up and running, with max salary, and the literacy program, and 3 libraries supporting public services for more than ten years and haven't had a single graduate. Meanwhile the high school graduation rate is in the three figures. I speculate the issue is that every time someone is about to graduate my college employees decide to be miners for a day or something and reset everything to square one before returning to work. Kind of aggravating frankly. Anybody else have this happen, or got suggestions?

The thing that sucks for example on my island, i have 1 high school and i keep getting more high schoolers than uneducated which means no one wants to do uneducated job unless its good paying/job quality, they just refuse to do the get uneducated jobs, unless its infrastructure like teamsters and such, id wish i could set custom salary that'll get people interested
The thing is they spend 4 years in high school and would rather work then spend 4 more on college so thats why you get no college degrees & besides college jobs are rarest atleast on my island

College does tend to take a long time for the students to pass but this is by design. If the Tropicans can get paid well then they will go for uneducated jobs, putting the efficiency to max on the buildings will do this.

You can improve the rate in which they graduate by researching literacy program and putting the college efficiency onto max. As long as there are college jobs available you will get graduates.
I wonder if I should find jobs that require a college degree and pay less for them? In that way at least (theoretically) people with degrees would flock to be teachers since that's the highest-paying opportunity for them. But yeah, paying less for uneducated jobs is also an option. Thanks for the ideas.
It may also be worth bearing in mind that adult students are broke unless they're married to someone who is employed or you're running social security. It might be beneficial to put in some free housing and food (e.g. a couple bunkhouses on "stack them higher" and a ranch or a fishing wharf) near the college, and perhaps also some free entertainment, so that broke students can fulfill at least some of their needs without having to go too far afield.
Ah, that makes sense. I've been gradually getting better at providing those sorts of amenities for workplaces but confess it slipped my mind for education. It's still pretty ridiculous no matter how I look at it though. Close to 40 years now, again with all the buffs, and zero graduates. I probably wouldn't have any college educated citizens at all if it wasn't for that spelling bee edict. Also while I haven't been overtly placing houses and things next to the college, they aren't exactly distant either.

Plus they have no incentive to get a college education unless you have enough college jobs available for them to take (and/or have the college set to sell your graduates for profit to other countries)

If there's not enough good jobs to step up to, there's not enough reason for them to waste their time in college.

When I build something that needs college grads I tend to only hire half the work force from imported labor and then let the rest fill up from locals going to college over time.

Make sure you're not having graduates immigrate away from your priso- I mean island.

Otherwise you can always import more college graduates to fill the gaps.

Or have your pirates run the "rescue: educated" mission.
Does the rescue educated mission get college educated as well as high school? I wonder what the ratio is...
