Do more docks help?
Just started the game and while the tutorial is helpful in a lot of ways it does seem to leave certain questions unanswered. I'm trying the missions now and finances are beginning to be an issue. I don't think teamsters are the problem as I start with a few offices and I can tell if I need more because resources start piling up. However I only have one dock, and since freighters are pretty important I speculate there's room for improvement. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks in advance.

Usually, if your resources are piling up just at producers and not both at the dock AND THEN the producers, the problem is that you don't have enough teamsters. You'd be surprised at just how much industry a single dock can keep up with.
Hmm, I'll have to pay attention to that. Much appreciated.
Additional docks can help if you're producing goods far from your existing docks, if traffic is backing up around your existing docks, or if you're producing so much stuff that your existing docks cannot accommodate all of the wares that need to be exported.

Be aware that having multiple active docks is likely to increase the immigration rate substantially.

Yeah I've started running into a problem with there being too many people. Given how bankrupt my country is you wouldn't expect it to be so popular but I guess everywhere else is even worse :P
In all my time of playing I've only ever had one harbor, the problem is most likely inefficient productions and not taking trade deals.
ALWAYS have active trade deals, do the first or second if you have a good deal, NEVER take the big delivery when starting, only take it when you have a maxed out faction
Make sure you produce easy luxury goods like boats, rum, cigars etc, doesn't have to be hard ones like cars and jewelery
Make good use of your pirates, they can basicly supply any industry or single power generator alone :thumb:
Having played a bit more I've never needed a second dock thankfully. Depending on how many teamster offices I start out with I may need to get one more though, but not more than that I'd say.
I'd assume having an extra dock would be more useful for increasing imports (more incoming deliveries), although I've not tested that.

The imports get divided between docks. The more docks, the smaller each shipment. You can't turn a large import deal fast just because you have a lot of docks.

Nice to know. Shame though it's only serial.

My guy here is correct at least in my experience. Just to add on, I highly recommend increasing the budget of your Teamsters, this improves their efficiency and will ensure the teamsters jobs are always filled

I find having a 2nd dock near an industrial base helps with traffic during the World War and Cold War eras. As well, importing 500 goods at a time per dock helps the teamsters, as they usually cannot haul the full 1000 at a time.

This becomes less of an issue when Metro's become available, and a non-issue if using drone delivery routes.

A 2nd dock or a cargo airport set to import/export might be what you want if the distance between your industry and 1st dock is pretty far.
Assuming the issue isn't the goods piling up at the docks AND producers, you can relocate your 1st dock closer to the industry.

Consolidate chains of productions. This may give a boost to productivity, less teamster time wasted on long hauls.
Like say putting the goat/sheep ranch (Milk) --> near the creamery(Cheese) building.

For the most part one dock is the best option, lower cost. If your tropico gets really large or multiple islands then another dock is useful but by then your rich so it does not really matter.
