Parliament, Taxes, Night Mode, Trade Fairs and much more!
Hi there! Lately I’ve been thinking about how Trópico 6 could be improved, and I intend into sharing my ideas in case the developers might stumble upon these in order to get some insights. I hope you excuse my grammatical or spelling errors, for English is not my native language.

-Parliament. With the advent of World Wars era or the Cold War, allow for a Parliament to be established with, for example, 20 or 25 seats. Its functioning would be defined as a constitutional issue which could allow for an All-appointed Parliament; a Half-appointed, Half-elected Parliament; or an All-elected one. There would be different bonuses to each option. The most obvious to me being +5 Liberty for the All-elected; +2 Liberty and +5 Standing per faction appointed for Half-Half; and -5 Liberty and +10 Standing per faction appointed. The appointed representatives would be selected randomly from members of one, two or three factions at maximum chosen by El Presidente (intended to be the ones with the highest standing), while the elected ones would come proportionally from faction popular support and be a strong supporter (or die-hard) of said faction. Faction leaders will always be one of the MPs, unless that faction didn't gain a single MP because of low support. If any member dies while in office, he or she can be substituted automatically for another one. Razing or closing (pausing) the Parliament or jailing a faction leader or representative could be interpreted as an act of tyranny and affect very negatively citizen’s Personal Experience.

The Parliament would suggest once in every three or four years to enact one of the various edicts El Presidente didn’t sanction yet himself or, conversely, to repeal one already active. El Presidente, while not allowed to vote for he is the head of the Government, he would state or signal his approval, abstention or dislike of the proposed measure, and representatives would the vote aligned with El Presidente’s wishes if they have a good opinion of him, would abstain or vote randomly if they view him neutrally, or vote against El Presidente’s interests if they harbour ill feelings towards his rule.

Of course, those who wouldn’t be supportive of what El Presidente needs, could sway their vote if a new ad hoc factional mission is successfully concluded before the vote takes place or… they could be persuaded to cast a ‘convenient’ vote thanks to coercion, intimidation or just with a Swiss Bank account disburse. I do believe this parliamentary mechanic would add flavour to the game, whether you are a brutal dictatorship or a true democracy. This also ought to be a mechanic to make the Modern Times more meaningful, and not just a building and economic management thing.

-Allow to appoint a Minister of the Treasury and allow the Ministry of Treasury building, which could allow to tax progressively -or with a flat tax- different wealth strata, with a happiness penalty included. Maybe a consumption tax could too be considered.

-Night mode. Allow this mode into the game to behold at the night skyline of our beautiful island. Likewise, we could be allowed to block time shifts, and allow for a perpetual night, dawn, dusk, etc., if we so wished, but keeping time running, obviously.

-Even if not implementing the former, allow for streetlights to pop up along roads, instead of those mailboxes and fuse boxes (or whatever they are), etc.

-Allow for traffic lights to appear for aesthetic purposes or even for actually regulating traffic.

-First, allow to hold a major sportive event if having an active stadium, like in Trópico 4. (Edict-through)

-Second, allow the stadium to be repurposed as a fair venue, where international fairs could be held. Fairs connected to an industry or service present on the island could get a boost in their efficiency or good’s price. In addition, these fairs could lead to a new type of tourist; the executive, the businessman… Whatever.

-Allow police officers to take detainees to prison by car. Way faster than on foot.

-Allow to ban factions as in Trópico 3. Its faction leader would be imprisoned and the former members get the chance to join the rebels and get a permanent -20 Personal Experience until legalised again.

-International organisations. Allow Trópico to choose (or not) to be a member of the UN, CARICOM or OECD (if it qualifies for that) and/or interact with them. The Commonwealth too, if the Crown is actually the United Kingdom.

-Allow the housing of embassies from Dominican Republic, Mexico and Venezuela, but instead of interacting with them as we do with the five major powers, just harbouring their legations, could grant a flat -10% import discount.

-Allow the flag of each foreign power to be flown at their embassy, and not the Tropican one.

-Add as new foreign powers Brazil, Japan and India. Either as minor or major powers.

-From 2021 onwards add the UK as a new power to the game.

-Allow to appoint a Minister of Health, which could raise the limit in which citizens die from poor healthcare thanks to a streamlined bureaucracy.

-When a minister sponsored by any faction is chosen, that faction could get +5 Standing for being part of the Tropican Government.

-The National Day edict should, in my opinion, get the approval of the Conservative Faction.

-Allow rain to be more frequent in Trópico -this is the Caribbean!-, not just when suffering a tornado.

-Allow building more than one wonder from each era, even building all of World Wars’ wonders if you so desire, but still capped at four in total.

-Let the fire fighters’ helicopter be automated when fire spawns because manually sending them is extremely tedious and trucks are already automatic.

-Do not display the “No Workers” symbol if you voluntarily decided to close all of the jobs but you want to keep the building for beautification purposes (and won’t pause the building because of the similar “Pause” symbol). Or allow to disable all “No Workers” altogether in the Options tab.

-I don’t know if the upcoming Caribbean Skies DLC will introduce us to normal taxis, and not just flying ones. But it seems counterintuitive that flying ones are available while terrestrial ones are not. Anyway, they could allow for free taxis, so Broke people could also use them, Normal Taxis, for Well-off ones and above, or Luxury Cabs, just for the Rich or Filthy-Rich.

-Introduce a Stock Exchange which could influence Bank and Offices’ efficiency depending on the financial international situation or your credit rating (ranging negative efficiency to positive).

-Allow again to issue foreign debt similarly to Trópico 5. Maybe once the Stock Exchange is built.

-Add to the Free Media constitutional option +5 Liberty.

-Allow to change the tile’s design by ‘painting’ the ground (paying a fee per tile). Specially to avoid those green patches on the soil that, sadly, cannot be avoided. (I’m too perfectionist, sorry) – I heard there is a mod for this, but I think this should be in-game.

-Allow a new Unemployment Benefits edict distinct from the Social Security one. This would give 33% of the average salary to the unemployed and reduce by 50% their chance to turn to crime.

-Include a new building called the Central Bank. The Bank of Trópico is in charge of keeping all of Trópico’s Treasury and Gold safe from intruders and robbers. Surely, these will not get to steal a penny from it…

-Introduce a fourth hospital work-mode similar to the Trópico 4’s Obstetrics, which raised the possibility of women to get pregnant. Or maybe raise birth rates in any other way but not by prohibiting contraceptives.

-Allow Offices (and skyscrapers) to differ both in building design and height, in order to create a more diverse skyline. Including building something akin to the huge Trópico 4’s Babel Tower.

-Allow bus routes to stop linearly at various stops, not just in the starting and ending ones. Allowing people both in and out in each one.

-Allow new bus mode, ‘school bus’, just to be used by children, for they cannot drive cars while adults can and these are more efficient for them.

-Change adult students’ outfit to the one used by the Library workers, which is essentially the same but without those ugly patches in their clothes. If they aren’t Broke, they shouldn’t look like if they were.

-Increase police stations radium in reducing crime for, otherwise, you need frequent police stations, even if you just hire one police officer each, which end up with an insane and unrealistic ratio of officers per 100,000 inhabitants.

-Once you get into the Modern Times, remove the Trabant car model from the roads.

-Allow the construction of one-way roads and roads with two lanes in each direction (kind of an avenue).

-Allow to designate certain zones of the island as neighbourhoods with a custom name and a purpose. E.g.: industrial neighbourhood: +5% efficiency to industrial buildings. In order not to abuse this, a minimum size should be required.

-Allow a dual calendar while in the Colonial Era, which offers simultaneously the remaining mandate and the current month and year.

-Allow to visualize the limit at which citizens might die from poor healthcare, and possibly, to raise it or rework it, for I have plenty of max-funded and evenly distributed Hospitals and Rehab Centres along the island, not used at their maximum and FREE of charge, and still 10 to 20 people die each year from poor healthcare. T_T

Despite all these, I truly appreciate the Trópico series since I was really young, that’s why I’d like it to become better and more immersive. Hope you agree on these suggestions. Have a nice day, folks!

Why would a dictator ever allow the creation of a parliament?

Most countries, if not virtually all, do have a Parliament, irrespective of them being a democracy or not. And those not willing to play as a dictator might find this mechanic engaging, so I just put forward the concept.
