- You don't need to clear the floor to add levels to your item, you can just run to the gate and it'll count as clearing that level.
- That said, it's good to have a fist user to knock away the gatekeepers and/or powerful ranged characters (well leveled/equipped magic casters), an item world runner (a floating char with high movement, like Tink or Mothmen with 3x shoes at least) and dedicated throwers (Heavy Knights have 6 Throw).
- Always bring a Mr. Gency whenever you go in an item, just in case of... well, an eMrGency so you can save and not lose your progress.
- Whenever you clear a floor multiple of 10, you are given an option to go back to the hub area (whether just a message upon completion or through the Spirit in the Innocent Town). There's no reason not to take it and save your game (except, maybe, if you want to reset for one reason or another).
Buying Mr Gencys would be nice indeed, but as you mentioned, it might impact the gameplay (especially with item perfection and such).
Go into some easy items and toss a char to the exit until floor 10, which you have to clear to get a Gency. You can leave the floor free of consequences after floor 10, and without use of a gency. It will prompt you to stay in the world (no), or go home (yes). You will be able to come back where you left off.
Do that like 10 times and you've got all the gencys you need for when you really feel like fighting your way through the item world. Although I don't recommend "fighting in the item world." The item world is usually not worth your time if you havent finished the story levels yet. It's more for the post game.
The *most efficient* thing you can be doing right now is passing "more expensive stuff bills" and buying upgrades, and clearing the main story. Beef that store up and buy your shiz. The stat gains from the item world don't come nearly as quickly as leveling the store, until much later in the game.
If you decide you want to keep playing and clear the EX bosses and such, you'll be spending far, far more time in the item world than you ever wanted to. But at that point you'll know how to do *any* item world run in less than 30 minutes. And by that point, you will level on grinding maps, and use the item world only for specific things (like gathering felonies, finding treasure maps, or leveling an item for stats). You don't fight there for EXP. And you always toss across the map to clear a level unless there's a reason not to, that never changes.
It would probably improve it for the better TBH ;p. For me, the most annoying thing is that you can only put one baliff in an item at time. It's just a waste of gencys and time and it's not a fun mechanic at all. I'm at 201 felonies and counting, but I'm dying from this awful part of the grind. I miss statisticians.
1) Item General levels...
2) if you pull off a geo combo and get a high bonus gauge - which usually kills most enemies and weakens the survivors (so clearing the map is short and trivial)...
or 3) cases where there's a gatekeeper you can't knock off (because the gate is in a corner), can't kill in one blow, and where you're likely to lose several units who tossed your gate-attacker to the exit gate.
You can steal a ton of great items from the random monsters and any floor with damage reversal or invincibility (or a harmless gatekeeper) you can stack the monsters and get like +20 lvls on all your guys.
Saving in the item world can be really useful when trying to select a bonus room for example without becoming crazy after reseting the game too much !
It's a pity because the pc version has a few rare improvements over the psp version, like the bonus characters who seem to have less bugs here and there are more of them, but you loose the ability to save anywhere and anytime !
