In my opinion, this part is where the story's quality starts to fall. It also adds a bunch of new mechanics, but they still required changes that would be added in the next games. It's got the best opening, though.

Ya, I'd agree that it felt like a notable milestone in the story quality dipping. I liked ~most~ of the characters and some of the post-game stuff, but the whole thing felt uninspired/bland otherwise, and they didn't push the whole "Netherworld School" idea as far as it probably could have went.

With some of the D3 characters being unlockable in D2 here on Steam, I'd be tempted to skip Disgaea 3 if it got a PC re-release. The only thing that would make me reconsider is that catchy opening song.

I only played 1-3 and thought 2 was the worst by far. I truly despise the felony system and didn't really care for any of the characters in Disgaea 2. The only ending I enjoyed in Disgaea 2 was the "worst" ending.

On the other hand, I thought Disgaea 3 was hilarious. Mao's mad scientist skit and the Vato Bros. had me cracking up.

I must say that 3 is maybe worst of 5 i have played (1-d2) but i still hope it comes. I like laharl ending and i have planes for that game(like valkyri+wolf or Marona edition,Majan bond of soul with fire deamon+Crit innicents,witch+reaper etc.).

they have to make all of the games....if they skip 3 theres no reason they wouldnt skip dd2 or d4 either... to them it may onyl be worth porting 5. Just hope all of them come and just buy the ones you want. I hate this attitude of 'i didnt like game x so they shouldnt port it even thought others may have liked it'.
this isnt a port to xbox 360 or xbox one were tlaking about, were talking about PC the platform that has ALL GAMES and their definitive editions mind you.

LV i agree with everything u said well il be honest i enjoyed disgaea 2 a lot but i prefer disgaea 1... and d3 seems better then disgaea 2 so i wish could play and put my hands on it

Dude, dd2 is a fanfic with the main characters of the first game, and that makes it worse in my eyes.

Sorry, I won't go away. It's just that if someone is introduced to Disgaea with this particular entry, they might just give up on the whole serie, and it would be a shame. And since I would not put 100+ hours in this one, I wouldn't mind if the skipped it. I don't think they will though.

I my first disgaea game was 3, and I love this series, sure it isn't the strongest game in the series, but i think it's like being introduced to FF by FF 8, not the best but not bad.

Personally, it was my second game in the serie. After playing Disgaea 1 PC and enjoying it way more than I expected, I decided to buy a second hand PS Vita and Disgaea 3. Even if it is probably a passable game on its own, I probably had too many expectations (and spent too much for it).

If I didn't have this experience, I would have already preordered a N.Switch for Disgaea 5 by now...

you are right, if you buy a console for only one game and that game turns out to be only ok, you'd probably give up on the series, but still, the majority the people wont have this experience.

It's simply annoying when people try and give NISA a pass to skip ports of this series. If you're out there NISA, don't listen to this mook.

I want to play it all, and we don't need any more japanese developers pointlessly skipping over sequels. This just puts lousy ideas in the developers head that skipping installments is somehow ok. You don't f'n port d1 and d2 and skip d3. I personally would not buy disgaea 4 or 5 until they release 3. I want to play them in order as was intended.

The mechanical advances alone make it worth playing in order. I loved D1, played it for the first time last year, but I'd like it a loss less after playing D2 because the game has already "advanced" a lot of systems. I expect that to continue in each installment.
