Better stories and main characters imho.
Resolution aside, I prefer the graphics of the earlier games to the flat low color count of 5.
The early games are feature poor compared to 5, but I'm not sure that's a bad thing.
It's been a while, but I recall that Disgaea 5 have so much refinement on their systems that it became difficult for me to enjoy Disgaea 1 and 2 to the same level.
I think if you're more or less exhausted all the story, DLC, and as much of the optional content as you have in Disgaea 5, then Disgaea 2 is worth the purchase, even more so since it's on sale as of the time of this post.
I don't remember if Disgaea 5 got multiple endings or not aside one I accidentaly found (I killed Usualia).
You can fight *secret bosses* so there is challenges.
