Staff-wielding Magic Knight for ultimate power.

D1 and D2 have elemental affinity rather than elemental resistance, which boosts both offense and defense with that element. Magic Knight can buff her elemental affinity (or use Firefighter/Aeronaut/Cryophile innocents) and debuff the elemental affinity of enemies. And her ability boosts the power of elemental attacks, even more so with lovers.

If you want to beat the 8 max-stat Pringer Xs, Magic Knight is up to the task.

The game encourages you to reincarnate into higher tier classes that use the same stats (mage into magic knight for example) or the next tier of your current class. There is even +10 bonus points if the last 10 reincarnations were the same class and tier, which is mostly relevant for unique characters and tier 6 generics. And if you're thinking about spells, you can learn spells from other units by using the master/student system, so you don't need reincarnation for that. There is no real need of thinking about a reincarnation chain.

true but i like the challenge involved ^^ so what would be a best end form for it? thinking either geomancer or spirit.

For magic, between a humanoid and a monster unit, I'd personally choose the humanoid. There's little reason to not get the dmg/range bonuses from staves. Spirit's only benefit over the humanoid is SP regen (which is only a concern early on) and maybe the side effects of its innate skills - paralysis (which other units can apply more reliably) and INT/HIT (de)buffs (which are somewhat~very situational).

One can make an argument about magichanging the Spirit to help an underleveled ally grind, but I believe it takes more time to level your Spirit (and/or farm lovers and a magichange scroll) to get decent stats than to just acquire and lv some decent equips for the weak char (or even just using tower attacks if that's not enough). Personally, for magichanging monsters, I prefer waiting until I'm strong enough to capture enemies boosted by Prinny Baal Pirates and their op stats (though, admitedly, that's probably one of the last things you'll do in the game, if at all).

i see, cheers mate

oh does reincarnating monsters pass their skills on?

Not their innate skills, no. The only way to have those on another unit is through magichange2. And through a bug involving Vyers' ending, which also involves magichange 2, I think.
