These issues have been an integral part of this game since it was released and you can see the history of this.
This is not a complete and fully functioning game and never has been.
Clearly this is why the price has been reduced so much recently.
I have hundreds of hours with this game because I am a diehard fan of OGRE.
I lost track of how many hours I spent giving feedback on issues and things to improve the game along the way. The issues either are resolved, or they persist, but there are always new issues arising after they "fix" any other issues so it's a never-ending Ouroboros of chasing new issues they create after fixing old ones and creating new ones...to this day.
After a very long wait, I reloaded the game hoping against hope they actually got their game operational to a Industry Standard of Quality and on the first turn, the game froze while executing a Infantry attack on another Infantry. -_-
This game had so much potential especially with the Scenario Creator and it's been squandered by incompetence. What made the situation worse was the Devs saw fit to make other games in the middle of these issues being unresolved taking time from fixing this game to make another.
The Devs (and SJGs) had the audacity to actually release this game to other platforms knowing the pathetic state this original game is in. A Profit over Performance Business Model will only get you as far as the Product can actually perform with integrity. This game is a case in point. This could have been such a huge success for SJGS and OGRE and instead it's a Disabled Hulk of nuked and glowing battlefield wreckage. But even salvage has value to a Company so money was made but that's a really shtty way to treat your loyal Fans though. What makes that worse is the fans are used for feedback of issues to the point they are expected to do so to make the game better. They essentially are being used as Quality Control and unofficially work with the Company that made the game, but the only compensation will ever be maybe the game will be brought to a functional state it should have been in from the beginning. And the response is that this is part of "Developing" a game. -_- Again, the audacity and incompetence is truly astounding.
Don't do it. It's absolutely a terrible mess of a... software emulator. I will not call this a game.
I might have gone into software and games had I more faith in hardware development, and the ability for home hardware to render vector based graphics like you see in this game and all 3D accelerated AAA titles. But, I didn't think hardware would evolve that fast, and that I would be in my 80s by the time today's AAA titles with their graphics hit the market.
I was wrong.
Even so I'm glad I didn't go into games and try to make this game come into being, or other titles like SJ Games's Car Wars or GURPS titles come into being. Because even when they do you get this game with its issues and wonky sound effects, or the Fallout franchise which was supposed to be GURPS, or started off as a GURPS port, and wound up being a post apoc RPG.
I guess my big rant here is that I don't see why games just can't be ported as is without issues and with good production values all the way through. So ... if this game gets another update ... I'm not sure what I would like. Maybe for a Battlesuit game, or some of the material from The OGRE Book put in ... or some infantry variety. And a campaign creator.
Maybe that's asking too much. I don't game like I used to, but that's what I would want, and that's my rant on gaming in general.
