Jumping Suuucks man
Seriously, I played this for the first time in a long time now with the knuckles controllers. I can't get past the jumping tutorial. Couldn't you just map a basic high jump to one of these buttons.

Do you not like the workout you receive?

The jumping is nothing compared to the actual climbing. I just want some control of the trajectory.

Using the Oculus Rift S I wonder if the knuckle controllers are this cumbersome to use compared to other controllers? Maybe there will be an Input-Option to basic high jump via button. To have this button as default would take away the fun for me because I enjoyed learning to walk and jump in VR.

Well I hated the jumping with the Vive wands also. I just don't have the patience for stuff like this when I could play something else like 'To the Top' instead. That game controls better but the climbing doesn't have nearly the same immersive feel.

I like the way you jump in DOOM VFR, just swing you arms downwards to jump straight up. If you could do that in this game while just holding a direction with the joystick that could be great.

I think this game just isn't for you. The devs aren't going to add a jump button bc based on someone's skill, they could jump much higher than if someone had only been playing for a few hours. My advice is to release the triggers when you hands are going the fastest, not when you complete the swing. Also make sure your hands are parallel to each other, that helps a ton.

You seem to think it's a player issue and it's not, it's an issue with the way the devs have implemented the index controllers. Hopefully they will correct it at some point.

I stand corrected, it's the dev rather than devs.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the implementation. I've never been able to jump as precise and high as I can now with the index controllers. It's a night and day difference compared to the Vive wands.

Oops I initially misread your post and thought you were having the same issue but you are saying the opposite - you can jump higher with the index controllers!

Are you using a Vive or Index headset and if you are using a Vive is that with cable or wireless?

It would also be useful to know your action when you jump, are you reaching forward and pulling back and as you pull back do you move the controllers parallel to the ground or slightly towards the ground, and are you letting go of the buttons towards the end of the swing or at the end (also which buttons do you have mapped, the default or custom)?

Sorry for so many questions but it would help the rest of us that are having issues :)

I'm using the Vive, still wired, since my CPU can't handle wireless. :)

I haven't remapped anything, so everything is on default. I'm also not doing anything differently than before, it's just that for me, it works so much better now (perhaps because the gripping and letting go is so much more natural, I don't know..).

So, the way I always do the jumps: I "grab the air" in front of me, as if there was a rod or something to hold on to and then propel myself into the direction I want to jump, so e.g. I grab in front of me at shoulder height approximately and then pull down towards my hips. That's about where I let go.

For really high jumps, I'll "grab" pretty much above my head and pull almost straight down. That way I could even make it onto the surrounding wall of the main menu level. The developer does that frequently in his videos and I always thought he had some special code activated for himself, but no... it's actually doable :) (I can't quite jump up there in one go, but the "CLIMBEY" logo is grabbable and I can reach that and move up from there)

I hope this helps someone. For me, the new controllers have made Climbey a lot more enjoyable. :)

Thanks Mettanine, great post with lots of useful detail. I'll give that a go later today :)

I had a similar issue with my CPU and had to upgrade it, thankfully my motherboard and RAM supported the upgrade, which kept the cost down a bit.

Thanks @Mettanie, I used the same method and I am getting fairly good results, much better than previously when I was trying to pull more towards me and with clenched fists. I'll keep practising to hopefully improve the consistency and height of the jumps. Much appreciated though.

Yes it sucks, I use a Rift S and it's totally random, I can't jump in a consistent way, one time it works, the other time it doesn't.

I need the perfect timing to jump and it's really not fun, there is a problem in this game.

A common mistake many people make is pulling their arms up before they jump
You want to start with your arms high, grab and then release in the middle of your swing
Your jump will be in the direction and speed your hands are moving the moment you let go
ManMeme 23 Jul, 2019 @ 5:11pm
I use the Rift S also and I don't find it random at all.

I guess that's what happens to you when you play 200 hours on both a CV1 and S.
