I was interested to hear that sometimes your game actually starts working again after this occurs. I have never been that lucky, and have to turn the computer off manually and then restart it. I also sometimes get the crash error message, or it just quits to desktop.
I have tried various graphics setting also without a reliable way to reproduce it. As you pointed out, the only consistent thing about it is that it will eventually happen when playing the game. Keeping GPU-Z open I see that for most of the time playing my GPU is at 99%. I maintain around 60-75 FPS on my ultrawide at 3440x1440 using vsync.
I have an I7, 16 GB ram, Vega 64.
I'm also using an i7 7700k, and 32 gigs of ram, though i'm running at 1920x1080. It's an odd one. I hope the devs read this over and have some suggestions, because this game is amazing and I love it to death.
Not that I know what the solution is...
With only a small amount of google searching, it appears many games are having issues with the new Windows 10 build 1803 (aka Windows 10 April update). I would like to repeat that this error is unique to this game, and have no problems with any other games.
My error is listed in event viewer due to the faulting module -ntdll.dll- (which seems common amongst other users currently with a wide number of different games):

Love the game! Just want to play it without it crashing :)
Thankfully we have managed to fix this internally, will be in the next update.
I should also mention I have a 2023 gigabyte Aorus x17 laptop with a geforce 4080 gpu. It runs any other game on steam easily. Only this one is causing me issues. Really Sad!
