Random freezing
I've tried varied different video options on detail levels, even tried the "sync gpu to cpu" option, but it seems that consistently once a session I'll end up having the game freeze in a manner where it appears that stuff is still happening (i can hear firing, enemies moving, clearly i'm dying), but the screen is frozen.

Eventually, it'll either:

A. Come back to normal and everything is suddenly where it should be
B. Freeze entirely and stop the audio
C. Continue with audio and then I get a mouse cursor turning into the "waiting" and it spits out a "Inquisitor has stopped responding, wait or stop program?" which I can then end the game.
D. Once in a super blue moon the game will say "hey we crashed and we're gonna send a log" (this almost never happens, generally fails to C).

Sometimes during these if I am lucky or quick enough to ctrl-alt-delete and get into performance manager, i'll see that when it started doing this, the game spikes CPU usage. After it stops freezing and goes back to normal, it comes back to normal.

It's extremely intermittent. I've also noticed it did this to me in alpha, as well as beta, the versions haven't changed it so far.

Did all my graphics drivers updates, currently running a 1060, and it is doing the same thing before and after the graphics driver update, no change.

It doesn't seem to be super consistent, and I can't really find a way to reproduce it. I saw in an earlier thread months ago one of the devs said "play a coop mission and then play solo and it'll fix this" but if I try to play coop, the game just sits as if it's /trying/ to connect to a game and then boom, freezes and crashes.

I'm open to troubleshooting, and would love to fix this as my friends don't seem to have this issue. If there's a workaround or potential fix i'm open to try it.

Love the game! Just want to play it without it crashing :)

Thankfully we have managed to fix this internally, will be in the next update.

I am having the exact same issues. I had posted something in the initial thread when the beta was released, but I am afraid it got lost amoung the other things.

I was interested to hear that sometimes your game actually starts working again after this occurs. I have never been that lucky, and have to turn the computer off manually and then restart it. I also sometimes get the crash error message, or it just quits to desktop.

I have tried various graphics setting also without a reliable way to reproduce it. As you pointed out, the only consistent thing about it is that it will eventually happen when playing the game. Keeping GPU-Z open I see that for most of the time playing my GPU is at 99%. I maintain around 60-75 FPS on my ultrawide at 3440x1440 using vsync.

I have an I7, 16 GB ram, Vega 64.

I'm also using an i7 7700k, and 32 gigs of ram, though i'm running at 1920x1080. It's an odd one. I hope the devs read this over and have some suggestions, because this game is amazing and I love it to death.

Check the Warning | Display section of Event Viewer and see if there are any warnings for 'Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered.'

Not that I know what the solution is...

Could you guys send a dxdiag to matyas.csikos@neocoregames.com with referring to this topic? Thanks!

Email sent. Thank you for your prompt reply.

With only a small amount of google searching, it appears many games are having issues with the new Windows 10 build 1803 (aka Windows 10 April update). I would like to repeat that this error is unique to this game, and have no problems with any other games.

My error is listed in event viewer due to the faulting module -ntdll.dll- (which seems common amongst other users currently with a wide number of different games):

Sending you my dxdiag.
✪ megapull  [developer] 28 May, 2018 @ 3:07am
Have you tried a complete reinstall?
Kwisatz Haderach 28 May, 2018 @ 6:48am
Complete reinstall. Verify game files. Installed all of the required files for the game in the steamapps folder for the game. Graphics drivers are up to date after clearing them out with DDU prior to the update. Again, this is unique to this game. I can play they are billions, battletech, grim dawn, northgard, starcraft II, the long dark, wolcen, xcom 2, diablo 3, and star citizen without any problems whatsoever. I am still experiencing this issue
Psion 24 Dec, 2021 @ 10:27am
I I purchased all the dlc and wanted to get back into the game but I can't even finish a single mission without the exact crash symptoms as detailed in this post. :steamsad:
Wonky Tadpole 26 May, 2023 @ 1:33pm
It's started randomly freezing on me. Never happened before, did a complete reinstall and verified file integrity. It happens about 66% of my play sessions right now. going to do another reinstall of both base and expansion. Any suggestions?
Razgaur 7 Jun, 2023 @ 5:51pm
I bought the promo recently and I made sure everything is up to date and checked the integrity and still I'm only at the second part of the very beginning and my game freezes after a battle and I cant do anything. And I'm only on the second stage of the ship! Getting close to requesting my money back!

I should also mention I have a 2023 gigabyte Aorus x17 laptop with a geforce 4080 gpu. It runs any other game on steam easily. Only this one is causing me issues. Really Sad!
