List of potential Edith workshop uploader limitations?
Is there a compilation of possible reasons for the Edith crashing when uploading maps? I'm trying to upload a map and it keeps crashing even though it's just one room, no special textures with system files that includes an intro message.

I'd like to troubleshoot this myself, but it's rather frustrating that the workshop uploader just closes out on it's own, without providing even an error code.

Can someone give me tips on what to avoid when uploading. Restrictions on image size? file size? title length? Bad directories?

I'm able to run the map properly on my computer, intro and all.

What was found so far:
  • Upload a basic map first, then just update through workshop afterwards.

  • Use PNGs for your images. The uploader doesn't like JPGs. Also, uploader is very specific about the character it accepts in it's textboxes.

  • Copy pasting into uploader's text boxes could result in "hidden line break characters" that the uploader also hates. Just type the description in manually.
    • Or just upload with an empty description, then edit it's resulting workshop page as the textbox there is more forgiving

  • Don't include a mirror and water object in the same room. They seem to screw up each other's reflective properties. Either the mirror loses it's reflectiveness, or the water just outright disappears (while still allowing Haydee to swim in it).

  • When working with respawning enemy bots, keep in mind that the alias property only applies to the first spawn.
    • This can be rectified if you delete the corpse by using the bot name, before respawning them using the alias. This also greatly helps with optimization/memory usage.

After the download fails, does this mod appear on Steam? If it appears, but there is no picture and the size is 0Mb. Try subscribing to this mod, and then update this mod via Edith with the necessary files. This method worked for me.

You mean upload right? No it doesn't appear on steam, I experimented with it a little bit more, and I got it to come up (compiled it into a single .pack file first). Though I think I did it wrong since subscribing to it afterwards didn't load the mod/map onto my Haydee client.

So just try to upload anything then just update it afterwards? Hadn't thought of that, I'll try that later. Thanks.

The uploader from what I can remember doesn't tend to like Jpegs, it will only be happy with PNGs and dds image files, that's pretty much all I know that the uploader itself doesn't like.

I know for a fact that the uploader won't accept jpeg's in the thumbnail, it must be a PNG. You need to fill out the description and title box, otherwise it won't accept it either, you can't leave it blank.

Edith is also pretty anal about specific characters that you type in too, adding a specific character in any of the actors or Director graph can even prevent from ever loading again.

Oh that could also be it, the thumbnail I'm attempting to use is a JPEG.

I'll try working these soon. Thanks.

Just a quick update: Just adding some observations.

I tried uploading something basic, intending to update it later. But it fails like before.

I also tried updating img to PNG, still crashing.

But then I realized that I was copy-pasting my map description from a text file, and it was introducing hidden "line breaks" that the workshop uploader might hate. I tried retyping everything myself, and it was able to upload.

Map has been uploaded here. Could you guys kindly check if it works? It works on my end. But I have to make sure.

I'll be editing the OP to include your suggestions, so just in case I hit this roadblock again I'll check this thread.

Thank you.
