Another option is gameplay tweaks. Once you finish the AwSW story, the skips in every scene get kinda annoying. My skip skips mod, imo, is a big boost (except for the part where I don't have the skip button appear once you pass the part it would skip. Still need to research that more...)
Of course, all this isn't just to toot my own mods. These are just things I've identified off the top of my head. Something much more complicated (though much, much harder to do) would be a "Chapter select" that lets you make the major choices in the earlier chapters and just jump into a save file at some point with those choices made. (Even better if it unlocks this mode dynamically as you discover options, rather than just unlocking after you beat the game, for example. The first game's variable structure makes this way too hard to accomplish without magic automated tools but if the second game is made with a bit more finesse, maybe.
I suppose this is all just mod support and mod experience benefits, as mods are themselves post-game content.
... great experience...
If we could find a firmer explanation of the portal amnesia, I'd be all for it. He's said there's an explanation and there are hints of that in what the community theorizes about CTT, but until we have firm answers we don't have firm answers.
Plus CTT could itself be an amusing game and/or story mechanic, though difficult to implement if that section is at all optional or free-roam.
I also hope the player's relationship with them during that time isn't just 'I wasn't talking to them in those four years, so now I need to catch up with them again'. While the audience obviously needs to have an organic way of learning what happened, it'd suck if the relationships built during the first game are demolished just for the premise of the second.
And while it might not be easy to establish whether the player character had a relationship from the first game, I hope there's at least something to allude to it, even if it can't be a story focus.
Speaking of returning characters, I hope Vara is somehow important. While AwBH is elaborating on her family history, everything to do with her is usually just people around her using her for character development. The last important thing she does in AwSW's storyline is *die*, for crying out loud. It'd be nice if she had any agency, or at least some official closure.
With the secret true ending we might get a new threat for the world. So I’d be nice to see more positive dragon/human interaction to deal with those problems. The sequel might even be using the save data of the first game so if you have a relationship with Bryce, Remy or Anna, the sequel might continue there. Lorem could have finished his game and Adine still is a friend.
IF the sequel would continue our old save game, it would be interesting if all the main characters getting back their memories, especially if you dated all three possible dragons (maybe 4, but for Adine we only know that the protagonist slept at her home. So no romantic relationship it seems) and you have to choose between them. Well, choosing between Remy and Bryce since Anna doesn’t seem to mind open relationships or sharing brothers (Awbh comics)
I think with the true ending we can assume that Remy is now caring for his daughter Amely and might have also adopted Vara. Both girls need a loving family
Adine might help Remy to care for his daughters. We also need to see her making her dream come true.
With Anna hopefully being cured now, she would start a new project (maybe to rebuild the world) and might even act as some sort of parent for Amely despite her differences with Remy. Maybe she will even start to be less hateful to others.
(She’s the only character were I’m not sure if I like her or not. One the one hand, she is a b*tch toward everyone, even a fan she had in the comics, and manipulates others for her own advantage. On the other hand, once you manage to crack her very hard shell, she can be nice and flirty
We definitely need more Bryce (well, more of all main characters) and Maverick. Maybe even making Maverick a main character to date/befriend. I always liked him but we still had to see him die so many times. He needs a happy ending. Hell, with Anna being Anna, we might even get a Maverick/Anna/protagonist relationship 😂
For Reza….may he rot in prison
I'm using MagmaLink and its tutorial. It was difficult and I made many many mistakes since I had no idea how to program, but with some help from the awsw discord server I was able to come from "I'll write the story and someone else can do the coding" to "only date 4 left and I can publish my first mod" in like 1,5 months.
I even fixed some errors of the mod "Aftermath".
Well, maybe I should have gone for something easy as my first mod like an extra scene like "A day at the park" or even an ending mod but I chose the most difficult one; a full character path for Maverick with 4 dates, changes to the main game and several endings
I don't even use ModTools; just the MagmaLink tutorial and other mids to see how they wrote their cide to do stuff
But yes, the sequel will allow mods. MBS confimed it but he also said that it will take some time. So we might have to wait some more months after the game was released until we can actually make mods
Yeah MagmaLink is considerably easier than mod tools if you ask me. I don't know why but the buttons on the menu crashes every time for me. It's nice to hear the sequel will allow mods though.
It was designed to be. I worked pretty hard on getting a consistent initial language in its predecessor Linkmod between "find" and "search" statements, then Magmalink's creator actually made it viable for other people to use. (My implementation broke Steam Workshop in a nasty way.)
You don't specify which menu, but if you mean the "Mods" button on the main menu, that's an issue of the creator not understanding Ren'Py menu prediction. I've contributed a fix that'll only run the complex network code when you actually click into the Workshop or GitHub mod browser.
Wait, was there an announcement on this that I missed?
It was a question of the ama on reddit
I know how much of an undertaking making a game is, and especially a sequel, and making 5 new characters that would be potential romance options to be pushed as the new and shiny, but after 6 years people have grown attached to the cavalcade of screwups we all know and love from Part 1, and having them as options too would be a no-brainer.
In the AMA the creator did mention that "you'd think there might be a desire there too to maybe find out how these characters are doing nowadays." but let's be honest, to most people that might just not really be enough I know it wouldn't be for me after Anna and Adine... , rekindling lost loves would be even more of a desire than just 'oh hey how you doing after 4 years?'
Then again we know how much the creator loves traumatizing people and showing them off as having moved on with their lives and the big 5 already having relationships would make sense, even if it would be soul crushing...
We already know that we're playing the same protagonist from Part 1, all the effort we did for the big 5 shouldn't be utterly wasted like that...
