Coop Campaign barely functioning?

I have been trying to play the coop campaign with a friend who bought the game especially for that very purpose, and it simply does not seem to work. In battles, the player not hosting the game has no Hud or ability bar (no i did not toggle it with F10 i checked that), can not commission new vessels and often unable to move fleets on the campaign map. Just wanting to know whether others are experiencing simmilar issues, or if someone has found a solution for these problems. Loving the game so far apart from these technical issues.

Same this end. Initial attempt of playing had the game confused as to who seemed to be the host. No HUD, No combat sounds, No ability bar and the camera locked to a single point leaving me unable to look round the map. Culminated in a fatal error which caused my companion player to lose the round and then fatal error out himself.
The game on single player is massively enjoyable and i understand the co op is still in beta. Just initially frustrating. Hopefully this is something they can solve quick enough.

Also, kinda hoping that fleets can be assigned to players on the map as opposed to giving ship control in battle as it gives less of a co op feel and more of a "here, you can move these things for me" feel.
