Sudden GPU power drops causing microstutters on laptop (RTX 4050 + Ultra 9 185H)
Hi everyone,

I’m having a persistent issue with Insurgency: Sandstorm , and I’m hoping someone can help or at least confirm the behavior.

System specs:
Intel Core Ultra 9 185H
RTX 4050 Laptop GPU (6GB, ~105W max TDP)
24GB RAM
PCIe Gen5 SSD
Running at 1440p

Problem:
During gameplay, I get occasional microstutters, even though:
FPS stays between 90–115 most of the time
Temps are perfectly normal
Game is running on dedicated GPU
All overlays are disabled
Power plan is set to Max Performance
NVIDIA Control Panel is tuned for high performance

After monitoring with MSI Afterburner, I noticed that the GPU power usage suddenly drops from ~90W to 20–30W for a moment, even in intense scenes. This leads to noticeable stutters, despite the framerate being high overall. It seems like the GPU is underutilized or deprioritized temporarily for no apparent reason.

Switching from dx12 to dx11 may not be a full-fledged fix; it will reduce the problem, but it will not completely eliminate it.
If you are not tech savvy, don't do this.

Use Regedit to force your nvidia card to always be at max boost clock, regardless of what you are doing.

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\0001

Make a new D word 32 and " DisableDynamicPstate " use hexadecimal and type 1. Then restart, you can confirm its working in MSI Afterburner or something.

If it doesn't work, or help, you can delete that entry.
