Why Donovan cannot leave the bar?
The game is great. I play it over and over again to discover every text I haven't read, but after that the game plot seems incomplete to me.
I can't find any comprehensive explanation about why Donovan cannot leave red string club. There’s no more explain/ plot about Gost, after it took two alcohol. The explain given by Akara about red string club/ Donovan/ player (Muse) is just confusing.
Did I miss something? Is there any sequal should I play to understand how the game world works?

There is another game by the studio (which I didn't play) called Gods will be watching. I'm not interested in it because I heard it's very difficult and I wouldn't enjoy it, so I read a bit and it seems it's a bit connected with this issue Donovan is having?

Anyway I didn't play it so I can't say for sure, but maybe you can search around here, I believe I read it on this forum. It's mostly theories, though, the game itself says nothing about it.

My theory is that Donovan is immortal and hense the blessing/curse he cannot leave the bar. If I'm not mistaken I'm pretty sure he treads on the topic if you speak to the freelance torturer.

Yeah I read that but still confused. It seems pretty super natural (fate, bless, curse, etc) and not well explain. It's inconsistent with the cyberpunk air within the game, which feels pretty realistic in most of the time.
I'm not sure if that's the thing that the staff deliberately leave unexplain, things like "don't think, just feel"... or they do give a explanation but just hide so deep I haven't realized.

I am damnedly late, but Gods Will Be Watching has an "Easy Mode" which makes the game actually enjoyable.

just finished the game and judging by your post and its replies I reckon the endings can be very different.

I'm saying this because my ending had a long sequence where the two main characters were talking on a roof, where they first met, and where Donovan explains why he can't leave the bar. it's because of an injury. any details would be spoilers.

Wow, is there any other ending? I thought there's only one ending.
I know there is a talk on the roof and I know Donovan's kneel is broken and he cannot have implant because of anti-implant virus. Still it doesn't explain why he cannot leave the bar. During the conversition with the freelance torturer it seems like Donovan was supernaturally bonded with the club thus he cannot physically leave it (so confident with Russian roulette!) and this is what I feel confused, since the supernature elements are pretty inconsistent with such kind of syberpunky background in the game. Also the gost is the similar mystery.
Also about the roof talk, in my version it seems like it was not their first met. They were just celeberating a successful business cooperation (work as a team?) and take a selfie together, and I think after that they begin to date with each other...

Yes, that's the one. I don't think there is a different ending. I misinterpreted it as their first meeting. However, I seem to remember Donovan saying he can't leave the bar because of his knee injury. Am I wrong? Could be, now that you mention it.
Also remember what Akara says to Brandeis at Supercontinent. Donovan is so self-convinced he have abilities, he subconsciouly unlock the potential to be sur-human. Wich can explain why he cannot leave the bar, because this is where he's more convinced he is immortal, can triggered emotion with cocktails etc..
But the sad truth is that he is telling thoses stories to himself, but he just have an injury

Personally i think Donovan is "something else", if you push to the limit with the torturer guy you know what i mean, plus the dead looks guy seem to be in the not normal stuff business. Kinda "romantic" that mix "supernatural" with cyberpunk.
