Throne of Lies®: Medieval Politics

Give the community a chance.
I just bought the game, and I see that there's a lot of people complaining about 'toxic community'.
Well let's talk about that; so far I played 5 hours so a good few games and I found little to none toxic players in my games.

All I've found so far is people appreciating that I'm new and forgiving that fact like "We've all been there, Shiro. It's alright." some even HELPING me get through the game by teaching me what roles do. (got EXTREMELY good help for playing Maid)

So, so far I don't really see the "toxic community" everyone's talking about, maybe because I'm just new, but it has been a great experience with the players up until now.

Give it time. And don't let it bother you when it does. It takes all kinds, or so the saying goes. There are those that insist that if you don't play the game in the exact same way they do, then you're "throwing." That by and far is the most common variety of "toxic" player. And then we get to actual throwers, these guys don't like their roles, so they do what they can to end the game for themselves as soon as they can so that they can start another game, often to the detriment of their team.

Thankfully, these folks aren't as rampant as some would leave you to believe.

We're glad you're enjoying your time here. I hope you don't get to see much of what was mentioned above. We'll keep doing our best to keep those incidents as low as possible for an online game.

Have fun! o/

Hey thanks! It's a nice change to see someone posting about what they like instead of don't like :) We all appreciate the post! We spend a great amount of resources towards moderation and overall atmosphere of the game ( Learn about our transparent practices @ https://toli.es/mod ), so it's great to see when people notice our efforts ;D

I gave it sense the start and in the beginning it was a great game. But sense i've been on discord and talking to a few people about feed back and constructive criticism on the game, they lashed out at me and i called them out for being toxic. And that they were. There was this one moderator in particular that was really bad about it but i think mostly the devs were ok. Sense that issue, I've not played the game due to toxicity. I'm more then willing to try the game, but they need to get less toxic people in moderation, and new classes because there is just not enough to do for about 4 or 5 of the classes i played.
Please if you have issues with some of our mods, contact another mod about it.

Ever played ToS? Now that is where you find a real toxic community. (Or at least that's how it used to be last time I've been there. They supposedly tried to improve that situation, but I didn't actually check to see if any of their moves worked.) This is one of the 3 reasons I stick with ToL nowadays - a less toxic community.

That said, like it was posted already, give it time and you'll meet them. And no, it's not what Hastur described. The most toxicity here is of the plain garden variety. People calling anyone who makes mistakes "retarded", people snapping out at you when you politely point out their mistakes, and even people just being asshats without any visible reasons or provocations. In other words - the usual.

P.S. over 75% of people that “insist” you play the game "the way they do" are actually on to something. While the fact that you are attempting an inefficient strategy is not by itself a throw (a throw is by definition deliberate - it is only when you KNOW you're not doing everything you can to win) other player's reaction to such actions is generally justified.

Take the current noble meta for example. If an evil claims to have been on king d1 he risks being put into a very small claim deadlock, or even outed on the spot because no protectives of his variety were on king at all. As such many of them claim to just not be following noble meta for whatever reasons. Which in turn makes all those who do the same look more suspicious. Which in turn can lead to bd executing, cs-ing and jail-exeing bd.

And this is a re-occurring pattern – most strategies are based around evil being unable to follow them for some reason. Either because they can't “physically” do it or because if they do it they are “screwed”. So they hide their inability behind refusals. Generally doesn't help them much, but it's the only thing they have left to do that helps at all. And you're helping them hide by increasing the chance that a refusal is coming from a legit BD.

Even when you don't think that the strategy itself is efficient, even when it actually isn't efficient, just the fact that you're not following the same strategy as the rest of your allies is by itself harmful to team's effort. Why do you think military is so hung up on discipline and chain of command? It's because even a mediocre plan followed by everyone is more effective than several conflicting but otherwise superior plans breaking the co-operation.

And on top of that, like I said at the start of this segment, by my own observations over 75% people preaching strategies are preaching good strategies.

The issue with the game is that there is only about 80 people left playing it. The developers need to work on this issue.. maybe change the paid model this game has and make it free with in-game store? something honestly..
