Social deduction games should never be free to play. The two big reasons being moderation and skill.

When Town of Salem was free to play, it was entirely too easy to create an account and start throwing on it. They tried everything to stop throwers (Including IP bans) but there was no way to make a solid compromise, and the game went pay to play.

The second thing is that generally new players immediately join a game without reading on any tutorials or class cards, flooding the game with people that don't know how the game is played. We've had this happen when the game did have a f2p weekend, and I'd consider those days the worse days of ToL.

MINDNIGHT has a massive toxicity problem... You just don't see it because that playerbase is nonexistent too.

I definitely recommend you participate with others from the Discord if experiencing toxicity: https://discord.gg/tol ~

500 gold to play with friends in private lobby (basically a pay2play), that was not what I and my friends expected, if your idea for this was to motivate players to play public, then it means you will miss ~10 players. Since not every person knows english to communicate with other players.

And I dont understand why I cant host these lobbies without paying, I bought this game and now you forcing me to grind gold in public to play with my friends?

Semi-private is still a public court fee price -- I feel you may have misunderstood since the average person won't have a fully private game (min 8, but not really fun unless 16 due to balance being centered around 16);

* Semi-private games are not 500gp: Eg, you group up privately with a group of 15 >> Merge into Public for the +1 >> Normal court fees.

* 100% private games (minimum of 8 players ~ to 16p) charge the host 500gp, guests are free (400g value for 8p, 800g value for 16p). The average group <16 will merge into public (since the game's not really balanced for less).

^ Why? This is mostly to encourage public queues (since -16 players in the public queue is pretty big for indie). Since you actually save 300gp for a full group, there will be times staff and rich players will drop links into the community (eg, Discord) to offer FREE games to folks at the treat of the host.

* If you go <50gp, we're currently offering free "court tickets", where we'll treat ya -- you won't get locked out: https://i.imgur.com/ana4kiq.png

* You never *have* to pay to play since you'll always have either gp or a court ticket.

* Since court fees are infinite (compared to normal f2p model to just bloat store prices 10x) while store is finite, we can update "premium" feats instead of just update the store like other games do.

You're not encouraging anything by doing this, only thing you accomplish with this is blocking people from playing your game.

Hmm, I'm not sure what you mean -- you never run out of gp for public or semi-private games or you get a freebie 'court ticket' ( https://i.imgur.com/ana4kiq.png ) to keep going. Semi-private games (up to 15 players) have normal court fees.

The only hefty court fee is fully-private games (eg, 16-player private game; hardly anyone has 16 players for a fully private game), which even then hosts the guests for free; if playing with a full group of 16 players privately, then you actually save your buds a few hundred gp in total. OR, you can queue up semi-privately with 15 people for no additional gp.

You can play both public and semi-private for up to 15 players infinitely. This is instead of bloating the store by 10x the prices and having updates only be store-centric (like other games do).

Gonna lock this since we have an official f2p thread.
