Dave.
Edit: Nevermind.......I just went ahead and did it all manually. Phwew...that was time consuming, lol. This would be an awesome tool though if it worked for me. Maybe these recent DLC and updates broke it?
Edit: SON OF A BLEEP*$&%....... yeah....don't recommend changing names of in-game cars. One, the liveries don't seem to work on a lot of them. Two, some cars in your parking garage may get listed as 'Untitled' at which point they're broke and need wiped--which the parking organizer mod is great at helping with. Three, the latest DLC will NOT like it ONE IOTA having anything changed in the name......all listed as 'Untitled.'
Four......and this is the big one.....if you thought you had all your 'cars' folder backed up and made these changes only to mess it all up real good......then tried to find your backup only to realize it's not on your pc like you thought it was......ugh...say goodbye to all your work. DOH! Somehow....had lots of copies of stuff....managed to mistakenly delete the folder with my original cars in it. Had to wipe CMS and start over.....from day one with no money and all my cars gone. Ugh. lol...goodbye 28 million I had saved up and 13 parking levels of cars. *sniff*...lol
Yes, this program still works, even with the new version and new DLC.
I can tell how you renamed your cars: You renamed folders and/or filenames.
THIS IS THE WRONG THING TO DO!
Never ever rename any folders or files. It causes all the problems you described above. The key clue was that the liveries didn't work. This is the result of renaming either the livery, the .cms file or the car folder. This is also is the cause of 'Untitled' in the parking organiser. And this is also the cause of the new DLC being listed as 'Untitled'.
To rename a a car, all you have to do is change the text in ..\cars\<car folder>\name.txt
And that's it. Done. Do NOT rename any folders, .cms files, or liveries!!!!
This program relies on standard car files and folders for the purposes of resetting names back to game defaults should the user choose to do so. It assumes the user has not renamed standard car files because why would they? All they would get is problems exactly as you described above.
With downloaded cars (if you have added them manually to the game), do not rename any file either. Just rename the parent folder to match that of the .cms filename (but omit the 'cars_' from the .cms filename)
Example: ..\Cars\fulysic1932ford\ would be the folder name derived from the cms filename inside: car_fulysic1932ford.cms. The 'cars_' portion from the .cms filename is removed.
This is only time ever that any folder needs to renamed (manually adding downloaded cars).
My advice is that you verify integrity of game files and get standard files back. But first, get a copy of all of your custom config files. These can be placed back into the new standard folders and will work just fine.
For any manually added downloaded cars, at the very least get the foldername matching the cms name as described above. Preferably using the original cms filename for that car to ensure liveries work.
Then, run this program again. It is far easier than manually editing all the name.txt files. It will pickup the new dlc and any manually added download cars and you will be able to edit their names too. However, when reloading 'standard' car names, the new dlc will not be considered as a 'standard' car. It will be treated like a manually added downloaded car and will not be renamed 'back'. It will stay as you have edited it.
The program offers you the chance to to save car names to a file which you can reload anytime you like. Once you have edited the new dlc names, you could save that as your 'default' car names, and recall that file anytime you like, so swapping between 'standard' and real life cars any time you like is dead easy.
And one other thing @Mardoin69, If you still have a copy of your old profile somewhere, there's almost every chance of being able to get it back. Have a good hunt for an old profile. This is kept in your docs folder totally separate from the steam program files, and could be salvageable. This may even include your parking and the cars within.
Edit: If you want it, I can send you my profile. It's got everything unlocked, phone orders, max level etc. It will save you the legendary grind.
There's only about $3m in the account, but several $m dollars of cars in parking. You can delete these cars via the parking organiser if you don't want them - just put them into the holding area and click 'apply changes to game'. You will be warned that the cars will be deleted, and if you click ok then they're gone forever. But be warned - if you do this, you won't make any money from them as they weren't 'sold'.
Oh well...for now....I'll start over.....and, maybe backup my old profile if / when I can actually find all the mods I had. I tend to start games over a lot...in other games....which is why I've never even played over half the games I own, lol. But, yeah....If I remember correctly, this grind will be quite long.
Yeah...I've tried that 'Expert' mode before. Didn't care much for it.....I like seeing the visual cues.....especially with my old man eyes forming cataracts now. I could just play in Sandbox mode but, it annoys me that no money is deducted for my purchases. I mean, it kind of makes buying / selling pointless to me. I don't think I'll mind the grind TOO much. I know the first time around it didn't seem to bother me much and found it odd people whining about how it was taking them forever to level up.
If you sacrifice all your cars in parking that were download cars, then you'll just be left with standard cars in parking, and the profile should load (subject to which cars were in the garage - but that's fixable also).
You can always just try the following with a copy of the old profile so no harm no foul.
Backup your profile 4 if you want to keep it in case this doesn't work.
Paste the copy of the old profile into profile 4, then open that profile in the parking organiser and tell me what you see. Do you see standard cars? dlc cars? Is it just the download cars that are listed as unknown?
If so, delete them using the parking organiser and then try loading the profile in game.
If that doesn't work, it could be a car in the garage itself that's stopping it from loading. This is fixable too but won't explain that right now. Let us know what happens first!
Edit: Well....my backup was a lot older than I thought....only have 9 parking levels full and 5 mil but, hey that's WAY better than starting over. Good thing is, I didn't have any 'untitled' cars to contend with so, back in business.....woot....woot!
That's a false positive. It never had done that before so, either you picked up a virus attached to it--if getting from some other site--or a recent update to the AV started seeing it as virus. I just downloaded using the link Jill n Dave supplies in this thread and scanned it with my AV...came back clean.
