Minion Traps (Demon Portal and Lich Tomb) Discussion and Suggestions
Right now both of those traps have only one use.. as a meatbag.

At higher levels/tiers and runes they become useless at some point, with enemies just blitzing past them because of their abysmal health and it's better to just outright kill the enemy than "delay" them.

Coupled with a bunch of buggy interactions from traps affecting your own minions and the AI that really binds them down, makes them not worth using.

This makes Lich Tomb even more useless since they're clunky at most. First let's identify the problems..

1. Minion traps should not be affected by your own traps.

Particularly the Black Hole Trap. I don't know if Spike Trap and Lightning trap still do damage them since I haven't used them in awhile. Push Traps and Spring Traps are exceptions to this because of their interaction (pushing entities).

Suggestion = Make them immune to "friendly fire".


2. Minion traps, at most, do not get benefit from the skills from the skill tree.

Besides rearm speed from Brute(Red) tree and a couple of skills from Elite tree(Blue), Minion traps get no support from the skill tree at all.

Suggestion = Minions get a slight benefit from "Portal Guardian" skill from Brute tree or add a new skill entirely catered to minions.


3. Items/Equipments do not help minions

The only benefit minions can get from them is "Minion Health" from various relics and the Endurango unique.

Suggestion = Items can have "Minion Damage, Minion Damage Resistance and Minion Attack Speed" modifiers I mean if there are runes that increase the enemy's attack damage, damage resistance and attack speed, why not give our friendly minions too?


4. Minions have really bad AI.

The bane of their existence. Liches in particular suffer from this. An enemy across the water? Let me just get in the range to att-- aaaaaaahhh I'm falling.

Suggestion = Give them better pathing. Or better yet the ability to have them patrol their spawn radius or a line or something. Or even better, Liches are now flying/floating.

5. Minion traps have bad/useless traits.

Particularly the Lich Tomb.

Now to the traps themself.

A. Demon Portal
The best bodyblockers. Their use is to stand stupid and hope they survive the encounter. They need something going for them if they are to stand out from the other traps.

Suggestion = Demons gain an innate/passive skill where they burn enemies close to them.

Traits

At level 1 they get

A. + 20% Rearm Speed
B. + 20% Bonus Health
C 5 Gold per kill.

Suggestion = A is ok for zerg swarm tactics.
B should be buffed to 30%.
C should be 5 Gold AND +1 bonus max health per kill (bonus health is permanent and capped to 50)

At level 2 they get

A. +1 more demon
B. Explosion on death equal to their damage
C. +200% Bonus Damage

The weakest link here is 1 more demon. Is that bonus demon really worth sacrificing a level 2 trait? And choosing Demon Lord from the level 3 trait makes this useless as you cannot have 1 more demon lord.

Suggestion = replace A with "Blood Bond" where they return damage to enemies attacking them.
B should buff explosion to also receive bonus damage from max health.
C is fine.

At level 3 they get

A. 2 more demons
B. Demon Lord which gains 1 max health per kill.

Suggestion = replace A with Demonic Zeal = + 1 more demon, + 10% rearm speed, + 10% max health

B = Demon Lord gains
-Cleave where his attacks damage enemies in an area
-Innate HP regen is increased
-Max health per kill is buffed to 3 and is passed on to the next Demon Lord

Great points! I think you nailed the changes that it needs.
I LOVE the demon and lich traps so much.
but yeah they're always the first to be cut on any map where I'm having trouble. the friendly fire of the black hole is brutal, and they don't work against thieves, master thieves, horsemen, and - unless it's a demon lord - against gyrocopters. they deseprately need eitehr better scaling or more effective body-blocking ability!
Lichs need a faster attack AND the magic missle itself should phase. the great benefit of the lich should be that you can place it in places normally not able to put projectile traps in, but they too often get in their own way.

Is it me, or does upgrading the Lich's health (via the tower during play) not actually do anything? Is it bugged? Their health bar/number does not increase at all, after paying, even several times. My current Lich health after upgrading does not increase. With my setup its 869 and after paying the first upgrade price (10K) for 10% health increase, it is still 869.
