What's the point of retreating?
The enemy army chasing can always follow you even if you retreat on the same turn, why bother?

It depends how many movement points each army has left. If you moved your whole range the previous turn then you won't be able to retreat very far. On the other hand, if you haven't moved and he has to move his whole range to get to you, there is a good chance you'll get away. You just have to judge it.
