Are the lizards in temple ruins bugged

There's a lizard type in this level that makes you lose control of Crash and run backwards, the effect persists for a couple seconds even after the lizard is dead from your spin. It's like the game wants to force you off the edge regardless, it's weird. I haven't played these games in actual decades so maybe it's normal and I'm just missing what's making that happen.

A google search turns up that touching or spinning certain enemies does make the game force you off edges and it's intended. It's just so weird the way it happens because it doesn't look like anything is happening or make sense, it's not like the enemies that push you it's different it feels like the game is bugging out. You can still jump and stuff.

The PS1 version has the same features. They added some variety. It can be a little annoying.

Yep, the lizards that stand up and walk on their hind legs will always knock you back if you spin attack them. It's safe to spin attack the lizards that walk on all four legs. It was this way in the original PS1 game too.

Just avoid spin attacking the the upright lizards, as you're more often than not going to end up being knocked off the edge of the platform. Just pass them, or kill them by jumping on top of them.
