Lead Programmer of Original Game Spreads Misinformation, News Outlets Parrot Said Misinformation, Comments Agree or Didn't Understand Article
Alternative titles: Why I Hate Games Journalism; I’m in the Twilight Zone Again

In short, the lead programmer of the original Crash Bandicoot claims they "built something borderline insane" for Crash: tap button, do small hop. hold button, do big jump. He also claims the remake omitted this.

Both claims are blatantly false.

Holding buttons to do bigger jumps is a staple in platformers and existed before Crash so nothing about that is insane. Second, the remake 100% copied that system. Took me three minutes to boot the game and verify. Maybe the guy is senile or something but what baffles me more is how many news outlets just regurgitated this without questioning those claims at all, and how mst of the comments either don't even understand what he said or straight agree:

Amusingly, the only outlet to even remotely apply any critical thought is the controversial Kotaku.

I don't know, felt I had to share this somewhere because this must have been close to the record of facepalms per minute for me. What a joke.

Wow, that is totally bizarre. The idea that they created dynamic jump height is insane, even Mario 1 had that and probably something even earlier.

The completely wrong information about the remake jump is also really weird. It's not just slightly wrong either as if there's a grey area for misinterpretation, it's just flat out the opposite of what's true.

It makes no sense that someone who probably gets royalties would wanna defame it, but at the same time how is it possible to genuinely believe either of these things?? Totally maddening to read that, also really goes to show how useless and fake "games journalism" is.

original programmers never said anything like that about this or hitboxes. It was gaming journalists, YT gaming vlogers/streamers and reddits (basically the same ppl for them all) who said that - speaking for devs.

*If we named Crash and Mario, we must name Sonic as well.

What???
I literally put the links. Reading before posting helps.
Here's the direct link to the original developers' post: https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:7350944750100762624/
