Unfortunately, Slipstream played at 16:9, although letterboxed at the top and bottom, so it didn't get squished.
The options menu doesn't provide an option to change the aspect ratio, only to toggle between fullscreen and windowed mode. You can change the resolution in windowed mode, but not the aspect ratio. The aspect ratio in windowed mode is closer to 4:3, but it's not 4:3. Furthermore, in windowed mode you can still see whatever window/desktop you've got open behind the game.
Perhaps if I ran the computer directly to my CRT TV as opposed to through the VCR player, it would detect and adjust, but I'm doubtful. I'll test this theory at some point soon.
So, I managed to get Slipstream to fit the 4:3 TV, but it was just 16:9 squished to fit, not true 4:3. After a few minutes you adjust and don't notice it much, but I would still love if the game was able to support a native 4:3 aspect ratio, and not just squish 16:9 to fit.
