Battle tech: gothic - opinions?
Was recently reading up on catalysts addition plans to swing battletech into a war hammer’ish grim dark over tone. Looks fairly interesting in concept and I’m all for taking my cobbled together roughneck against some Kaiju / tyranid inspired enemies. Set racs for brrrrrt* anyways just curious if anyone here had been following it and thoughts?

Making derivative content is easier than creating something yourself.

I was more thinking in terms of them going that way and opening the idea up to the gaming sphere. Don’t really care much for TT personally.

Not just macross. But yeah, it borrows heavily from various mecha franchises.

I think the designs actually look awesome though I don't exactly see how people are immediately being drawn to the conclusion that it's "40K" themed because I can tell you first hand that nothing in 40K even remotely resembles how the designs for the models look even the Tyranids in 40K barely scratch that surface.

Because battletech isn’t known for having monster crossover etc so closest point of reference for similar media is 40k, it’s not to say it’s a 1:1 clone by any stretch but the under tones of it even purely from atmospherics is similar. Since iirc the only mention was once with like some giant lizard / Dino. Can’t recall the name but yeah.

Rather a hole in the head

So the similarities being drawn isn't to outlandish. As for the minis not looking anything like it, can't say again as I'm not interested in the TT so haven't looked into them to much, just the concept artwork etc for the lore dumps.

First, the name seems like a clear rip on "Battlefleet Gothic", a retired 40K game line. Aside from that, every image I've seen for BattleTech Gothic is done in an unmistakable 40k style.

What some people are missing is that this is probably an April Fool's Day release that got leaked early. It might still end up being an actual (probably limited-run) product that you can buy, but the timing suggests they intended to announce it on April 1st.

Idk, anything beyond the Jihad era (and including it) has always felt like a fever dream of incomprehensible badly composed mess. At some point these franchises do write themselves into a corner and face a creative dead end... and then they have to do various "soft reboots" retreading the same tropes over and over, but switching the numbers and names a little every once in a while.

There was some statements that suggested that it is not intended to be an April fools release but wouldn't be able to verify said statements.
