Where are the damaged parts going?
I always strip spare mechs for parts before I sell them, because I can always sell the parts later but I use them just as often. A lot of times I'm pulling damaged (yellow) parts off the mech, but later I'm never noticing any yellow parts in the inventory. Are they getting repaired, or discarded?

could always manually check? if a mech has a damaged medium laser on it and you pull it off see if your medium laser count increases by 1.
red parts are gone. Yellow parts are able to be fixed, and will add to your weapon count

I just tested it by shelving a mech that had a single damaged Lvl 0 MLaser and my amount of Lvl 0 MLasers did not increase.

So it seems they are not added if not repaired prior. I will test this further if i get the chance.
I suggest to repair valuable equipment before shelving the mech, just in case.
I think they get scrapped. I did the same by removing a damaged yellow part on one mech, and then tried to re-equip it from the mechbay screen and it didn't appear. So if you don't repair the part before removing, I think it gets junked.

just to make sure did you check your laser count before or after the work order completed to remove the equipment?
The last time I bothered with something like this in YAML I could select the yellow components when building or rebuilding a mech and simply clicking it for repair would repair it. This was a while ago tho and with the nature of mods and modders this could change at any time depending of their whim.

Can confirm you can repair damaged components in YAML. It simply fixes the item and you keep it. Red stuff is still destroyed and gets replaced if you have a new one.

Yes, i did. It would be a bit pointless, if i had not done that now, wouldn´t it?
It was 3 before and it was 3 after.

Did anyone else actually try it and if so, what were the results?
(in a vanilla game?)

just had to double check because I've messed that up probably at least a dozen times during my time playing this game trying to immediately take a weapon off one mech and put it on another without waiting for the first work order to finish.
