Heroes of the innersphere , solaris showdown, then the rest of the dlcs over the years .
edit i hate the steam forums spacing and all that crap*
Its nothing extra, but if you like the game or if you can get them on sale, there really isnt a reason to not take them.
I do want the extras from the other dlcs but waiting on a sale. Steam has sale right now though so no brainer as the dlcs are rare even on key sites!
A lot of it is down to perception of how the DLCs do it, and if the content is for you. Also, a lot of launch reviews were negative because the DLC had to be cleaned up a bit in places.
Solaris in theory has a lot of worth with a new chassis and several new weapons, a new campaign and mission types, but the arena AI is broken and the base arenas are too big. Of all the DLCs I'm still on the fence about rating this one negatively, but I'm willing to give PGI the benefit of the doubt they can and will fix it in a patch coming with the upcoming Clan Invansion DLC.
Call To Arms has a rather short and easy campaign with only one medium mech chassis which you won't use much, but it also adds melee weapons to the game, which can be turned into a completely different playstyle (though to fully unlock its potential, you will need mods).
Rasalhague and Dragon's Gambit are "just" bigger extra campaigns with new chassis. There were issues with them at launch, I think, but I have played through both now and they work just fine. Iirc the Longbow Chassis also needed some buffs because the Stalker was just better when the DLC originally released.
So while they don't bring the big, cinematic campaigns to the table, they let you take part in some of the Inner Sphere's biggest conflicts, with some added bells and whistles. If that sounds good to you and you need more mech action, don't hestitate to grab a DLC or two.
As standard they are £13-15 each!
They barely add any content at all and the patch that comes with each dlc is free which fleshes out the game more than the patch content lol.
Currently at around £5 and £6 on steam which id say is fair value.
The big content dlc was kestrel and heroes so if you havent got them then get these ones.
I've read call to arms makes the game much easier as the ai use melee variants which you just ping off before they reach you.
I've never tried any melee weapons but I know melee combat is clunky af without them but I would like to roll about with a banshee.
The new dlc coming seems a large dlc and if it really does add loads of new mechs and customisation for your mechs its a no brainer and probs be classed as one of the best dlcs.
I've never tried any mods but it seems mods trump all the dlcs for content but again seem to make you're mechs indestructible from what I've watched so could get boring fast.
I love chain quests running down my mechs to the bone and feel like they give a good challenge
Fair enough missions and stuff but I mean new mechs and customisation.
The Arena is almost completely broken due to the AI but sticking to duels or team matches means you'll miss the nonsense.
Kestrel Lancers I got because I was interested in the missions it adds but I wasn't able to complete them with the 'mechs I had in that save game so it was kind of a bummer. I don't play Career Mode anymore because that mission series broke my company! LOL Put me out of business. heh I guess I started it before I was ready and didn't know that I wasn't ready. I think that adds to my hesitation to get any more DLC. I'm not bad at MW5 but the enemy 'mechs just smoked me! Over and over. I ran out of money and haven't built up the ambition to assemble the resources to try again yet. Been a couple years I think.
I'm interested in the rest of them, especially the Dragon's Gambit for the 'mech chassis it adds but there is still so much to do, even after 365+ hours in the game, that I hesitate to change any mechanics right now. I'm pretty satisfied with just these two DLCs at the moment. It's too bad Solaris is broken and the melee weapons from Call to Arms are a nice revival of classic BattleTech game rules but if you're in melee range you've messed up with my playstyle. Melee can be devastating in the right circumstances though.
I think my recommendation is to carefully read through the descriptions for each DLC and make up your mind from there. Wishlist whatever seems interesting and wait for a sale that occurs when you have some extra money. That's what I'm doing, anyway. For better or worse. I'm pretty satisfied with what I have right now though. But I am kind of waiting for a "complete" MW5 also. I think I just decided to try the Dragon's Gambit. Maybe. LOL It's hard to decide. Wish I could be more helpful.
I own all of the DLC and personally enjoyed most of them. The only one I didn't really care for was Call to Arms. All it adds is a micro campaign (3 or 4 missions), Hatchetman Mech, and melee weapons.
It's been patched a bit since then and is much more playable now, but the rating never recovered.
