Can't make a decision
I'll preface this by saying Mech warriors 5 (both mercs and a LITTLE bit of the intro to clans) is my only introduction to the battletech universe. Loving clans so far. Doing real good in my current run. Got a full lance of Maurader 2s (man they look so mean). I'm currently thinking bout upgrading my build from dual UAC5s to the possibility of 2 Clan UAC 10s (I have to find a second one. Just picked one up from an indust zone) or potentially a UACC 10 and a UAC5 (haven't found any clan UAc5s yet sadly lol)
Second fyi. My current build. I have no idea if vet, and knowledgeable mech players think its absolute garbo I like the util

Decided to mirror a youtuber I watch who is doing a challenge campaign. Downloaded the same mods he had. All good if the build's op. I like the power fantasy fulfillment lol

Agreed. The MAD II is underwhelming anyway and I personally don't his build either.

At least it has no jump-jets so that's a big plus

Nah, that's not what I meant. Your build might as well be badly optimised considering the available mod content. It's just that mods make it so that people can min-max nearly any mech so hard that it removes any challenge or fun from the game.

Although, this phrase tells more than enough about what kind of person you are, so I guess it's only natural:

I actually mistyped that. I played the first few missions of Clans and then picked up Mercs realizing that was the game I actually wanted. New as I am to the entire franchise I have no idea what loving clans says about a person lol

Hykril's hint- it removes any challenge or fun from the game.

Lore wise, the Clanners come off as ego driven freaks. Mainly because of their culture.

Tech/balance wise, clan tech is just superior in every way. It attracts a type of person that wants the best tech. (Power player)

I think Clans is ok,... the Ghost Bear DLC is where its at.

Except I can only wonder what exact "challenge or fun" vanilla MW5 can offer once you experience it all because unless I'm mistaken the whole appeal of the loadout system in MWO (and why people enjoy YAML) is because you're given an unrestricted loadout that mimics that freedom from MWO. When I was running YAML for a time I was able to get a Locust fully kitted out with nothing but PPC, practical? No! Fun? Yes even hilarious! People don't give a ♥♥♥♥ about what a mech's loadout is, all they care about is having fun and that's the end of discussion.

I know you you only asked about uac-5 vs uac-10.

My take is regardless get rid of the heavy med laser and med pulse laser. Add more Double heatsinks...

Goooootcha. Yeah. My love for clanner tech comes from, what I've seen of it it being generally lighter weight. Which means I can try and stuff more utility on my mech XD. Though I am, unashamedly a power player. I mean, in Sins of the Prophets for Sins of a Solar Empire I played the Covenant for example. I like the power fantasy lol

That is a possibility for my build, especially if i can find another Clan UAC10. Pretty sure the UACC10 x2 build will require some kinda weight sacrifice anyways if I wanna fit the ammo with the two guns lol

use whatever you find fun. if youre just going through with whatevers the best trying to clear missions as fast as possible, youll probably have a worse time than if you simply used mechs and weapons you found enjoyable.

Dayum now I feel old.

I remember MW on a 386....

I remember having to write boot disks for the original MW Mercs....

Yeh that was the goal behind making the UACC10 double build work was a thing. I very much enjoyed the UAC performance when I was back in my Maurader 1 lol
