Modern Day/Late Start DLC - reasons why it matters
There has been some debate about the possibility of a Modern Day/Late Start DLC. The devs didn't comment on it, but there seems they're planning to work on a modern day game around the same engine and idea than WRSR.
First of all, I do think that such a DLC would be the perfect opportunity for them to study and test many features for a new game with direct feedback prior to investing into a brand new game. I don't think that the new game would have its market affected by this one, as they would be different in setting and in mechanics (likely there will be no loyalty, secret police, etc). But it would be very nice if this were a ground test for the new one and thus both games would be improved, plus they would have compatible assets which would make work easier.

Secondly, there are many assets we miss in this game that would match a modern day game and that would improve this one, such as:
-semi automated factories (require less workers);
-advanced maintenance systems (info from maintenance and decay could then be divided into manual and automated);
-electric or hybrid (llower fuel consumption) vehicles;
-high speed trains (workers could reach the other side of the country if needed);
-ride apps (like uber, instead of owning a vehicle we could have a system in which workers could ask for a vehicle that whould deliver them to a place and then go to do so to another citizens instead of being parked there);
-e-waste;
-a new electronic which would be mobile phones;
-the need for internet access and to make buildings smart (thus increasing loyalty but also working as secret police);
-organic and vertical farming;
-bigger fields with GPS machinery;
-smart grids to ballance power and reduce outage;
-dual-piping water system filtration;
-revamped parking lots;
-priority lanes for either transport trucks or passanger vehicles thus reducing traffic;
-improved, larger containers;
-improved DO's to simmulate Just in Time (small stockpiles) with the option for some vehicles to not load to the point that you leave it empty (thus one depot can be used both to exports as to internal supplies);
-techs that you can buy only from one of the sides of the Iron Curtain (yes, techs, you should be able to buy Western techs thus western models for factories);
-dynamic events on both sides of the Iron Curtain (such as shortages on the East and embargo from the West) just so trade becomes dynamic;
-no inflation and some subsides from the East and the risk of embargo from the West;
-modular factory production, just so you can produce or buy specific prefabs to make construction of specific buildings faster;
-intermodal airports, which combines airport, train station, and truck loading station;
-improved fuel farms for huge storage;
-a ready model for cloverleaf roundabouts;
-high speed roads for delivery trucks;
-semi automated shops, airports, naval docks;
-cctv and facial recognition/social credit systems for citizens (serve as monuments, slightly increases loyalty beyond cap and reduces will to perpretate a crime);
-better policing due to automation - more cases per district;
-digital tracking of citizens in quarentine during pandemic (reduces chances of getting sick);
-medical tourism (specialized hospitals that works as attraction);
-emergency care units (small specialized clinics with fewer doctors that can provide care for more citizens).

These are some I can think of. Please share your ideas about this topic, comrades.

If i'm honest, given the state in which the Slow Start™ DLC released, i'm not sure i trust the devs with yet another one of those for which they will probably release it blatently unfinished, buggy as sin and uninteresting because devoid of content or new mechanics, all the while asking 20 dollars for it.

But that being said, does this title really need another DLC? I wouldn't mind it (if it was well done), but i don't think it does. I think it's done what it came here to do and it's time to let the devs move on to bigger and better things, while taking with them the lessons learned from this adventure.

Maybe as a community overhaul mod however :)

I actually would like to see more improvements to this game. While I'm also a critic of some aspects of the Early Start DLC, I see no reason for this game to stop at the 90s. There are multiple reasons for keep going, both game related (more efficient systems, green energy, modern machinery and vehicles) as well as to the devs (test a modern system into the game to get feedback while getting paid for such).
Although the game indeed start by being related to the Soviet style, it goes beyond, specially after the biomes DLC. There are still communist countries around, the collapse of the USSR doesn't mean the end of the game's theme. Russian and Chinese assets could easily be implemented ingame as to continue the modern day aspects of the game.
I don't know... To be honest, I think we're all at the end of our wits with the current WRSR engine, and I really, really, really, really hope that the next game they develop will use a new, overhauled engine, pretty please, with sugar on top.

I know it's quite tempting to reuse engines, but there is such a laundry list of shortcomings, limitations and not least, bugs with the current engine making its reuse not recommendable at all.

It's perfectly fine to learn from past experiences, both good and bad, but it's more important to look forward only to the good ones and steer away from the bad ones.

Therefore, I would prefer them to dedicate their full time and money on the next game with an overhauled engine which addresses most of the current engine's shortcomings, rather than yet another bittersweet DLC which can't really achieve its full potential due the game engine.

I do agree with you that a new engine might be better. I'm not sure if they gonna use a new engine, specially considering they're relativelly a small development team as far as I know and that would require a lot of rework. But indeed the current engine has some limitations, although I think the game is mostly well coded by now and could be reused.
About no need to anything else, I obviously feel that it would feel lacking if we missed the stuff that would make this game more modern. From clean energy to modern machinery, it would be a shame if we couldn't get more reccent stuff included into the game, and in most cases we need the devs to do so as the community can't.
a nnew engine that can handle all time periods and better road optiuons would be neato
