Fuel as a its own mechanic?
Why does it have to be attached to electricity? What if some of us dont want a hardcore mode 24/7 i still would like to have to worry about fuel instead of the electricity combo associated with it. Dont know, just wish there was a separation!

Same. The power system is rather simple tbh. But man it's annoying when I just want to chill but with fuel consumption
I've been asking that since the initial EA release. Electricity can be obnoxious to deal with but sometimes I'd like to have one or the other.

Pumps.
The free petrol station works with canisters, the larger ones have electrically operated pumps.

Its not that complicated honestly. Regularly spaced gas stations (in remote locations the free one) and the electric grid is what I set up first and are quite fun to make.

IRL, as Titule said, fuel tanks have electric pumps.
Simple solution I think would be to install some free modes that generates a lot of power, no fuel required, no pollution generated. I know there are for heating so why not for power...?
I do agree that a power-less fuel depot, a tier above the free one (but very slow) would definitely be nice, but I could see how that would drastically lower the infrastructure challenges of building a large road network, and maybe that's not desireable?

Why are the free gas stations not enough to get you started?

just build a powerline along the road or use a wind tubine for each gas plant. Or mods, there's a gas power turbine that works unmanned (though its fuel capacity is quite limited)
