This game is an unstable piece of ♥♥♥♥
I love it when I'm trying to clean up technical offices and the game just throws a little fit and crashes because I DARED to delete a free technical office. HOW DARE I DO THAT.

Anyways it's July 1939 and I'm trying to have my game survive to the 1950s but so far it's looking like that isn't going to happen.

well it is rather unstable still, despite how this thread may be a venting rant.
Frankly I have no idea what you're talking about. I bought this game and have literally hundreds of mods and played for hundreds of hours and can count the number of crashes on one hand.

I'm going to bet you have a bad mod somewhere. Literally the only crashes I ever had were related to a broken mod that called on a resource that wasn't there.

EDIT: so OP, do you want help or do you want to ♥♥♥♥♥? If you want help then give us some info (or just *maybe* try the tech support page).

it is very rrare that the game crashes. In +1000 houres it have crashed like 2 times when i delete something and 3-4 times when i build a road section, and in the past there was some issues with roads/walkways that could not be deleted..but i havent seen that bug for many month now.
I do not play with mods. Only the official game and dlc's
In my experience the game is pretty stable
And regarding the Early age dlc then i played from 1930 to 1940 so far and had one crash when i build a road els there have been no issues.

My recent savegame is like 3 weeks old
OP probably is doing things like trying to delete building just before vehicle enters it or trying to delete the road that still has vehicles partially on it. Sometimes it breaks then.
However I agree with Duke and Delle that in general game is stable. I have 2000+h in game and less than a dozen crashes.

Can also confirm that I've had maybe half a dozen crashes throughout all time (EA included), and most were because I did something stupid, like trying to remove roads or buildings while vehicles were still driving in/out of them.

Well you guys are lucky, i still randomly crash with seemingly no reason why, even if i'm playing modless. My drivers are up to date, i have a modern rig and troubleshot game settings.

Last week i even sent the devs a save which chronically crashed upon loading and it took them a good looking into to debug it lmao. (because obviously it crashed for them too)

So people who never crash, feel free to post your game settings why don't you because to me it's still somewhat unstable.

I mean, statistically speaking, you must be part of a tiny minority, otherwise I'd expect a lot of threads about it. People usually don't tolerate this.

Most of the time, this can be down to driver instability, hardware instability/incompatibility/fault, or both.

I remember that a few years ago, I would get crashes quite often (but in many games, not just one) and it turned out the GPU was faulty, so when I changed it, everything disappeared.

Last year, I started experiencing lock-ups in some heavier games (most often with Baldur's Gate 3), turned out my RAM went bad, replaced it with new sticks and everything's gucci now.

Anyway, here are my settings:

As you can see, I also have a decent amount of mods too, so I think the vanilla vs modded argument is a bit overused. There could be some mods that cause instability, sure, but as long as you stick to more popular mods, they're fine. Again, if they caused crashes often, people would complain to the authors.

Edit: Actually I do have a pet peeve with this game! This game, specifically, stutters like crazy and sometimes doesn't go past 15fps when Depth of Field is enabled (hence, why it's disabled in my settings).

Not sure why, other games work with with DoF enabled, but yeah... I guess sometimes the settings can clash with driver/hardware to cause issues.

I definitely had problem of game crashing when deleting buildings before, but I thought it was fixed because I don't see it anymore. I play on Linux+Proton though, so I guess this is also a source of instability.

Well ty for sharing the settings, mine are just about the same but i had vsync off because it caused crashes in the first place but i may toy around with it to see if somehowmagically changed.

But yeah its unstable and my rig is just peachy tbh..

edit i saw depth of field is off at yours too but mine is on though i don't see how thatwould cause crashes.

Weren't the 13th gen Intels the ones which were notoriously bad and riddled with bugs? Though Intel did patch them several times (I hear), you never know. Are you on the latest Microcode update?
Kaia 14 Jul @ 10:43am
Yes i am, but the issues you mention have nothing to do with crashing or bugs. They had issues lied to microcode (that were patched) that experience over-volting and potentially failure.

Anyways, i don't think i am in any minority whatsoever, except as per what steam says within the top 1% of computer rigs. A lot of reviews of this game mention instability, a bunch of threads in the support section mention crashes, and i just mentioned that i sent a chronically crashing save to a dev and the issue was two segments of road that caused crashes upon loading the save. Others crash in customs houses, or just plain randomly. Not to pop your echo bubble of people blessed with no crashes at all in thousands of hours.

That said i will test out your settings to see if i see any improvement.

Any time you do something to the roads. Add or removing a building the game can crash. These crashes can be prevented by pausing the game when ever you try to change something.
This game is very stable. Upgrade your 2GB of RAM.

So erm not sure that was indicative or what but i got maybe 10h more with vsync on and no crash thus far but eh, not sure at this point, will see over longer periods of time
