There were a few reasons I decided to anchor the menu underneath the puzzle. Firstly, I found it worked better across different headsets, since inside-out tracked controllers on RiftS and WMR sometimes lose tracking when you hover one hand over the other when interacting with the menu.
From playtesting I also found that some people struggled to open the hand-anchored menu, especially if they were new to VR and weren't familiar with the button layout on the controllers.
Finally, the layout enables certain features I'm planning to implement in the full release which would be harder to add if the menu was anchored to the hand.
That all being said, I'd love to know what made you prefer the hand-anchored menu. Did it make it easier to use for you, or look/feel better?
