You need to do this because losing a part could mean losing like... 12+ DNA. With enemies only providing 3 DNA, that means losing a part is a setback of fighting four enemies without losing any parts... Kind of a big deal, so play as cautiously as possible... I will admit that it's kinda weird how punishing that is; your goal per fight is to win absolutely perfectly, while from the enemy's point of view, all that have to do is remove a body part and you will get a net loss, even if you kill them and only lose one part.
You need to hold onto some spare DNA in some cases so you can regenerate weapons.
There is passive healing. The Cra'Than can heal itself with its weapon and body's ability.
In my opinion, this game is kinda polarising even though it's relatively easy. The difference in outcome between not losing a part and losing a part is so massive.
I don't see much of an alternative to healing other than re-balancing how much DNA the game gives you and how strong the enemies are.
We are aware that currently higher levels are a bit punishing due to how nutrition is awarded and how much is at stake when fighting. Several things might help to fix it:
- Re-balancing levels - we are working on non-linear level progression which will allow visiting areas in different order than it is now. That will require re-balancing enemy sizes and required nutrition to progress.
- Removing zooid cost scaling - this is something that I personally consider to be possible once we buff structure zooids. Scaling was introduced to artificially make all zooids beneficial and have a nutrition sink. That was before we allowed choose one out of two zooids after killing a boss. We now have more and better synergies between zooids and if we find a better way to give use for nutrition we could remove scaling. And having no scaling would allow having more aggressive playstyle.
We don't have passive regeneration on purpose. We don't want to encourage idling in the game while waiting to regenerate health. Need for regen issue could be solved by adding more ways to regain health in the environment without being able to gain free nutrition.
Thanks for opening this discussion. Sipho is in Early Access and we appreciate all feedback - we want to make the game as fun as possible for everyone.
another thing, if you have the breeds of zooids unlocked you should have their respective parts unlocked for all unlocked breed (if you unlock the Cra'Than then its parts should be unlocked for the other zooids to use in aquarium mode)
