Healing amount shouldn't scale with damage either - right now it heals you the same amount that you do damage, which makes Nervefiber obsolete if you have strong enough Leeches.
I'm open for suggestions how it could be made more interesting and niche to use - some rebalancing will definitely happen some time in the future!
I do think Nerve fiber is very good, saved me in a few boss fights and out of combat healing is important it's just easy to forget extra abilities because there are so many of them you can sort of drown in abilities and start running out of hotkeys and brain power to activate them. Being able to make some of these abilities passive or some parts work automatically would make things a lot more usable late game. When I first fought the nerve boss I thought, oh cool it seems to have some passive healing ability, when I unlocked it I realized I'll probably never actually be able to consistently use this ability because it's manual. Given the choice between nerve and carapace I'd take carapace 100% of the time because I don't need to push yet another button to use it.
As for Nervefiber and tens of skills - have you tried binding several skills on the same key? I've seen players bind Dash on W, so M1 gets freed up. I personally sometimes bind Nervefiber to the same key as Leech or Sizzler.
In any case, we have ideas of improving skill system and/or adding a certain zooid that would make some skill Activations automatic...
You can bind multiple skills to the same key? Might be worth tutorializing somewhere that somewhere, big gamechangers that one as hotkey quanitity has always played a huge part in my creature designs.
If you want to make a part directly compete with leech I'd actually reccomend taking a look at spike as I very much feel that that part is incredibly underwhelming and the only part invalidated by leech as it doesn't really do anything but be a worse claw and leech by quite a wide margin. The poison sprayer on that zooid is also just a worse poison mine which just makes the whole starter option a bit sad and I can't imagine picking either part mid run.
