Checking the save folders preparing to attach them here I see, that actually the direct cause seems obvious - the newly created save folders are empty. I create a new folder (repeated it with folder 3), game is not saved there and as long as I keep it as the new default I can't continue the game neither immediately nor after restarting it... because the default folder is empty. So it seems, that the only way to really set the new slot to become a default would be to copy there the content of the slot #1.

If those folders are meant only to start new games, then it should be clearly mentioned there. However reading the reports about saves quite often becoming broken I do think, that we should have a way to create backup saves and that this should be possible with those different save slots, as well as them being used for new games.
