After watching a few videos, the dev might as well rename the game to Paintball Tycoon. Just think of the the blood as red paint and there's no real difference ;)
I'm trying to make RollerCoaster Tycoon with shooting so I'm going for light and fun rather than dark and gritty.
Cheers!
But I have reservations.
Any chance at this actually having a true paintball mode, where guests can buy paint ammo, perhaps with different colors so that any paint "splat" could be visually credited to the guest who fired it, and also remove any need to suspend disbelief that they're actually still able to walk after a battle? As of now, a true paintball experience seems more in line with what a tycoon game like this wants to be, and I hope you have plans to implement a mode or specific features that are clearly based on paintball, if not outright make this a paintball business sim.
I'd think a business like this would also benefit from selling its guests clothing or armor to protect from various shot types and from having a clinic for guests who do get injured (shots to the eye or groin would probably demand medical attention, for example). Those may already be in the plans, and they'd make fine additions if they are. If not, they should be. Perhaps dealing with equipment sponsors and inventory costs would also add to the management side of things.
Having guest personality traits would make the guest experience interesting, if they don't yet have personalities. For example, the snooty guests would play only if they can afford the best equipment, while the beginners or inexperienced would be content to play with whatever the janitors failed to pick up off the ground. Too many tycoon games utilize customers with hive minds, so it would be cool if each of these guests had their own way of interacting with the environment. RollerCoaster Tycoon handled personality traits pretty well, with certain guests having aversions to certain rides for specific reasons. Maybe you have that one guest who wants to learn how to shoot, but isn't competitive enough to enter a battle. That guest would show up, enter a target practice, then leave. Distinctive personalities enrich the game beyond simply building and watching them come.
Just wanted to chime in with these thoughts. I'd like to support the development of this game, as a tycoon that encourages guest competition and creating winners (maybe even legendary guests who are so good that anyone who beats them might go home with a teddy bear) is harshly underused. But, I don't want to force a suspension of disbelief to play it. Having a true paintball mode with all of the bells and whistles that follow a paintball crowd (more efficient guns, guns that jam with paint that explodes before leaving the muzzle, different paint types, masks, vests, etc.) would make this more accessible to the common tycoon player (including me). I hope you'll take that into consideration.
Good job so far. Hope you'll stick with it.
Equipment like Armor, Helmets, etc was part of my original idea but upon trying to implement it it became too confusing. Managing weapons, armor, helmets and bullet types just became too much for the player to focus on.
It's something I want to revisit, especially as I add injuries which are part of the plan, but not sure how it will work out without overwhelming the player.
The guests personalities come down to their preferences, they prefer a certain arena game mode with a certain weapon and a certain layout.
Thanks for your feedback!
make it shooting park simulator... complete game has 3 tiers of park attractions
Tier 3 laser tag, no mess, no fuss, you get tagged out you keep running around until your vest lets your gun shoot again,
Tier 2 paintball , ammo, mess clean up management, sales customization.
Tier 1, live fire, and yes a live fire death match option... yes your guests can die. (incapcitated, dead are two states they can be in other than wounded/healthy).
Kids can play laser tag on one side of the park, teens paintball, and the parents play death match...
have a child care station and job for workers. $$$$
do it
This would be the superior game.
That's honestly what went through my mind the very first time I heard about the game before it became available on steam. Prisoners or whoever training and fighting to the death in organized matches. Or, the darker side, people kidnapped and forced to fight.
Numerous movies come to mind that use this theme. Battle Royal (2000), The Condemned (2007), Gamer (2009), The Hunger Games (2012), the list goes on
It is a nice little game though if you look at it more along the lines of a paintball park.
