Can't Start a Game (Linux)

I recently bought this Game and wanted to finally give it a try, but i'm unable to start a new game.

the application comes up, intro runs and main menu loads, i can set options, screen resolution and so on, but once i hit 'New Game' the screen goes black and the thread goes to 100% cpu utiization...

i'm running the game under ubuntu 18.04 / wayland.

anybody else having trouble with this, or are people playing successfully via linux?

ok so i figured it out, for some reason i have to hit 'Esc' once (on the black screen after clicking 'New Game'), then the game will actually start.
no idea why. is there a cutscene at the beginning that's not loading for me?

whatever, the game plays fine after that.
