Battery units will do what you want - just make sure after placing them connected to structures you use them and charge them from batteries so they have a charge. They are more expensive, but solar generators are really nice too - as they provide infinite energy during daytime (but you'll lose power at night). Late game power cores can be placed and provide infinite energy always, you'll never have to worry about wasting fuel once you have those.
