Save Corrupted/Game Freezing???
This is something very infuriating. It seems that if I close the game and try to load a save, it will freeze not even a full minute after loading it. It also freezes on the title screen if I don't load into a save or create a new one. If a create a new save it doesn't freeze or crash or anything. But oh boy no way will it let me play any more of my two hour saves. So I can't play either of my two saves. Uninstalling doesn't work. Restarting the computer doesn't work. Nothing seems to fix it. The only solution is to start a new save, only to pretty much lose it forever if I close the game.

The fact that it loads at all (even for a few seconds) means it's not a problem with loading the save. Usually, this is a graphics card issue - often I hear about this with people on computers which can switch between a dedicated and integrated graphics card - if you right click Aground.exe and see a "Run With Graphics Processor" option (you need to select see more options on Windows 11), select Change default graphics processor and set it to always run with the dedicated card.

Do you mind sending me your save (you can export it using the green button next to the save in the saves list, and then email it to david.m@fancyfishgames.com ). But, if it's crashing on the title screen, it might not be the save that's corrupt at all. I would try the following:

Disable the steam overlay for Aground (right click aground in your steam library, click properties, and uncheck it in the general tab).

Disable any mods - especially ones you installed since the issue started happening.

You could also try verifying the game file integrity through the steam library. Something might not be downloading correctly.

Hello @David Maletz, I have the same issue, and it seems that some other threads have been reporting it too.
The problem happens only after continuing a previously saved game.
For a new game it never crashes.
My guess is that there is something wrong when loading a save.
After loading a save, the game will crash after a random time, likely after a few dozen seconds. Rarely after several minutes. Then the image and sound freeze for a few seconds. Then it's like the game recovers, the sound is played again, the controls seems to trigger actual sounds like if we're digging or going to the menu, however the image remains frozen.
The game experience is not optimal without the image. :P
I can send you my saves by mail .
Notice I followed your advises: no steam overlay, no mods, windowed display. Version 2.1.2.

edit: mail sent

A developer of this app has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

It would be nice to fix this issue some day.

The workaround of "Run With Graphics Processor" is working like a charm! I'm fully satisfied.
Thank you very much David Maletz!
